Anyone taking Wellbutrin (bupropion) for ADD? What dosage do you take?
My counselor said the first course of action was to increase wellbutrin (currently 150mg x2). Family doc said to switch to Prozac.
I was taking Wellbutrin (150mg) for depression before I got diagnosed. After my doc wanted to keep me on it and added Strattera. I do think it helped some just by itself- I noticed a difference when I forgot to take it for a week or so.
Prozac is sometimes prescribed for ADHD, as is Zoloft, Effexor, and many other anti depressants. The idea is the get the right balance in your brain and these meds can have a positive effect on ADHD symptoms. They do take longer to work than stimulants, several weeks as opposed to 20-30 minutes with the stimulants.
I recall reading somewhere that some doctors don't like to go over 300mg of Wellbutrin (pertaining to ADHD, I don't know for depression), so this may be why he is hesitant to increase the dosage.
What type of degree does your counselor hold? You want to be careful taking meds advise from anyone who is not a medical doctor/psychiatrist.
I took welbutrin for several years and have also taken prozac and while welbutrin is reportedly sometimes helpful with add/adhd prozac is just for depression. So I have to echo barb-- does is your doc a believer or do they just think you are "making it up"?I was taking 150mg x2 also but am now taking 150mg total per day and it helps some but not as much as people seem to get when they take stims.
I've never heard of prozac for ADHD. Does your family dr really believe in adult ADHD or is he possibly thinking you just need an antidepressant?

I just started on this and it's fairly horrible. It seems to make ADHD syptoms WORSE. Where as before I was at least mildly functional, and on stimlants completely functional, I can't even remember my own name without spacing off on wellbutrin.
