my child is almost 2 and he is so super hyperactive and has signs of autism as well. he never sits down ever and i have seen kids younger then him that get around a lot but sit for a little at least. He circles us constantly and always has to be going around something in a circle. he always needs a drink and takes frequent naps from the hyperactivity. He bangs into everything and falls and feels no pain. I found a purple bruise on his ear and have no idea where it came from. he throws himself backwards and falls off the couch and i keep an eye on him but he is so quick. How can he bruise his ear though? i thought it was yogurt when he was eating in his highchair but it was a bruise. i tried to touch it and he didnt cry or anything. I have been were you are. My son who is 6 now was the exact same way. He would all run into walls because he would not pay attention to where he is going, jump off high things, and climb to tops of closets. I was actually fearful of the injuries that he would get. I would find bruises and cuts and not know where they would come from. It was getting to the point that he learned nothing from the age of 18 months til about 26 months. He was starting to fall behind developementally because he could not sit still long enough for us to even play with blocks for more than 3 min. What helped the most was I got him evaluated and he was placed into a group play in an early intervention program were he could learn and observe of children and talk to his aids. i was ale to stay and watch him trough a two way mirror and he did calm a bit at home and was even able to do little art projects and was so proud of him self. Though the hyperactivity never went away I beleive this was a good thing or him. when he was 4 he was diagnoised at Childrens Hospital Boston With ADHD, Coordination disorder, and Speech delay. but as I said it could have been worse in our school system there is great program for children 3-5 that deal with these issues and prepare them for school life. It is kind of like a kindergarten program being a few hours a day 4 days a week. Though they work at the developemental level with regard to attention focus and hyperactivity ( gym). I hope this helps in any way. You are not alone and many family's deal with this and look for answers. Though all make it through and you will to. Look for some good programs for your son to keep him busy.
