Adderall XR Side Effects? | ADHD Information

My daughter and I both take Adderall XR.  My daughter went through a period of teariness about a month after she started taking it, but this side effect finally went away.  She has been taking it for nearly 3 years, now.  She has had a lot of difficulty with appetite loss during this time, but seems to have finally outgrown this during recent months and has gained a little bit of weight.  In the past, we have used Ensure to supplement her diet.  I have also had this side effect, but needed to lose weight anyway, so it has not really been a problem.  I have also noticed that I now bruise very easily.  I have been taking it for about 7 months.

Sorry, just got home and checked the dosage, she started the Adderall XR at 20 mgs and  now is on 25 mgs.

Any thoughts?

Hi all, I have a seven year old daughter that has been diagnosed with ADHD Combined Type.  She was diagnosed roughly in preschool and then by the doctors in kindergarden.  We tried Metadate for several years with some sucess, but as she moved in to second grade she was not getting any help from it.  The doctor recently changed her to Adderall XR.  She started her on a dosage that was equivalent to the dosage she was on with the Metadate.  I think it was 40 mgs.  It seemed the first month that it was working good, no major side effects that we noticed.  Well, last month she started acting up in the afternoons and evenings, so the dr upped her dosage, I think she is on 45 mgs now.  Over the past two weeks or so I have noticed that she brusies very easily and even though she is eating, she looks like skin and bones, very bony looking, and you can easily see her veins under skin and seems to be much paler than normal, she does seem to be more emotional too, crying at the drop of the hat.  Any ideas? I did place a call to the dr today, waiting for a call back.  I am considering asking for a med change again, we really haven't been on the Adderall very long, mabey 3  months.

The emotional libility is a potential side effect of Adderall:

I would also tell the doc about the bruising and ask if a CBC (complete blood count to get the platelet count) might be in order. Not neccesarily from the med but can happen with viral infections and other common conditions.
