If it's cause chest pains then you need to find another med. Think of it this way you don't want to take it every day because you feel you will damage your heart right. Well taking it less often won't stop it from damaging your heart it will just take a bit longer to do it.
It's great that you've found medications can help you. Now you just need to find the right one. If your sensitive to stimulants (ritalin) maybe you can ask your doctor for a non-stimulant med to treat your ADHD.
I have been prescribed ritalin, but I do not want to take it on a regular basis, because it caused chest pains, and I am quite sensitive to all medication. However, I wondered if it would be ok to take it once in a while, eg for job interviews and for specific tasks, as it really does drastically improve my attention span (however the rebound is rather awful). Or would this be harmful?
I suggest you call your doctor immediately as you should not be experiencing awful rebound if your on the right medication and the right dose for you. We all have opinions but we are not doctors. I also recommend that you do more research about the role of ADHD medication because it is taken consistantly to improve overall function in life.

The doctor does not encourage this, and I don't understand why.
Thanks, yes... it makes sense what you both say. I think I was rather negative to the doctor about all mind altering medicine, so she didn't push me.
I wish I knew 100% for sure that the ritalin wouldn't harm me, but I guess when you can feel your chest it isn't good. The doctor didn't seem too worried, and said to stop a while, and then try it again...
That chest pain is common and it isn't your heart. It's listed as a common side effect. The nearest I can tell it has something to do with the nerves in your upper body. You will feel it in your back as well.shinsetu_hito38278.8362152778
