I'm sorry you are having a rough time. What kind of doc did the initial evaluation and what was the exact diagnosis? And does the school have an IEP set up for him? If you are not sure what that is, click on my blog at the bottom of this post and it will take you to a section on this board that has a description of it.
I would first go back to the doctor and let the doc know that the meds helped a little but not enough. There might be a different med that will work better for him. Call the doc on Friday and see if they can try some thing else or up the dosage. And keep posting and asking questions. There are a lot of people here that can help. For the school issues, there is a lady here, lillian, that will be able to help you more than me. But for the doc issues and discipline, this board is GREAT!
Well, my little boy Liam was kicked out of school today (he is in kindergarten). He was attending a Catholic School. His DOB is 4/18/01. His teacher and principal kept asking me to get him evaluated starting in October. I called the Child Develop Unit at Childrens Hospital and his appt was Nov. 7. He was diagn AD/HD and started Ritilan 5 mg 2x day that following weekend. Noticed a little bit better for a couple of days but then the notes/calls at work started again and the Dr. is away for the holiday.
Now, he attended preschool and day care for 2 years prior, 3 x a week, then grandma other 2 days. Im not saying his behavior was good but nothing like what he was doing at kindergarten: Ex: crawling on floor, kept going under his desk, running around the room, hitting, hiding inside coat closet, if he was corrected in any way, just shut down completely. His teacher is telling me this and I felt like I was going to be sick. Some examples of what would occur at home over the last 2 years: bad tantrums (I remember one so bad on vacation at the beach I had to go to bed at 7:00 p.m. for the night and I felt shook up for 2 days). I honestly say though the tantrums have gone down in frequency. Last Thanksgiving, he went outside with his dad to fix his truck, and went missing. I actually found him at an elderly neighbor's house eating a sandwich right before I was to call 911.
Going out to eat with him, well, we just don't do it. It is not worth it. I want to try again sometime soon but he crawls under the table and then runs alot.
I guess I just need someone to talk to. Husband is in denial. thinks it is immaturity and will be better next year, doesn't like meds (he goes to the gym daily and doesn't take an aspirin).
Liam is such a gift to us. I got pregnant with Liam at age 40 after having my tubes tied for 8 years. I never got a reversal either it just happened.I just want to do EVERYTHING I can to help him. Please help.
