our bad evening | ADHD Information

My son and I ran into a man we know last evening. My son went over to say hi. The man waved him away. He went away and walked back over. The man pushed him. I was livid.  We exchanged words. I couldn't understand everything he said since I didn't want to stand anywhere near him. He did say he would report me. I said go ahead. I know the man's first name. I also realize that he is mentally challenged. That is not an excuse to assault someone! Anyhow all this happened at the city bus station. We had to take the bus home with him. I called the bus station when I got home. The man said it was a police matter. I called the police. An officer came over. After asking us what had happened, he told my son to avoid the man. He did take down his first name and description. I found out the man's last name today from his girlfriend's brother. What an ordeal! That is horrible!  Mentally challenged or not, pushing a child is wrong.  Avoiding him seems like the obvious solution, but is it possible if you both use the same bus?  Will you be pressing charges now that you know his last name?I Work with mentally ill persons as a social worker ( all on my caseload) and I always say "Mental Illness is NO EXCUSE".  I didn't press charges yet. I was talking to a friend today. I mentioned what happened to him. He told me that the same man had pushed his son. He called the police. He also said that if the man did it agian he was going to jail. So maybe I should charge him.Is he ok??Good thinking love! How did your son handle seeing the man again?Yes he is okay. I took him to a doctor's appointment for 3:30 today, then to watch construction by the doctor's office. After that I took him to Zellers and Price Chopper for a few things. Upon arriving at the bus statiion we noticed the man who had pushed him a mere week ago getting off his bus. He was taking our bus. So we turned around and got back on the bus we had just taken. It goes close to our house. We just had to walk from the corner up about a block. He was nervous when he saw him. He said he would take our bus if I wanted to. I could tell he was scared when I told him that I saw the man and he stopped walking.
