Ive run out of ideas | ADHD Information
Have you checked out the alternative board for natural vitamins to try? How old is your son? A good behavior plan can help as well one where if the teacher is willing to reward your son for completing asignments, etc. My daughter has Moderate to Severe, with Inattentiveness, and ODD and is 7. My child was on meds. l last year this year she is involved in a study through the University and they designed a behavior plan for my child and now is having someone from the University go to the school to help out during the day. So far so good and she will be back on meds eventually.
There are still other things to try. It's exhausting, but you've got to keep going. Something will help him improve. Sometimes it's a combination of things.
Have you thought about finding a marriage family therapist who specializes in ADHD children and cognitive behavior therapy? A social skills class for ADHD children? Something from the 1-2-3 Magic book may help, or ogram's marble system. Have you thought about a theraputic dosage of high-EPA Omega-3 (goggle the Durham-Oxford clinical trial)? How about playdates with carefully selected children? I have found that a little of this, a little of that, brings a little more improvement.
Hi, I'm in need of advice. My son has serious ADHD, and I've tried everything in the world to help him. He's tried every possible medicine, is seeing two different phsycoyotrists, has a school tutor... the list goes on and on. Yet he still gets frustrated in school and makes a fool of himself in class, the kids still don't like him, he still can't do his homework, he still drives his sister insane, he still drives ME insane. I've run out of ideas. Does anyone have any to offer? You've come to the right place since there are hundreds of parents on this
board who have 'been there and still doing that'. I'm one of them. My son is
currently on Concerta and Strattera. It's far from perfect but it keeps him
fairly stable throughout the day although there are rough periods in the
morning and in the evening. Melatonin at night does help him to fall asleep.
Many here are still groping in the dark as you will read. Most doctors will
work with you to find a combination that works - don't give up. We can only
help our children and ourselves if we stick together. Keep reading every
message on this board until you feel better about yourself (rid yourself of
any guilt) and you have enough info to advocate for your son. Good luck and
happy day after Thanksgiving...I also found it helpful to tell my son about the board and show him posts, especially when the ladies praised him for achieving. He knows he's not alone. I also REALLY find ogram's marble system at the top of this board helps (when I have the time to enforce it!) We've also had a bit of success by giving him milk when he has one of his tantrums, I read that this helps in the production of seratonin which is one of the chemicals lacking in ADHDers. He was going hell for leather last night, chucking himself around, screaming - we had him drink a glass of milk and he was a different kid afterwards. We are also giving him a concentration supplement. We are all together in this ...
For me this site has done wonders. Not only for my son, but also for my peace of mind. In this battle there are times when we think we will get insane. Here I have found a lot of support and help- It is also wonderful to brag a little about our success. So, welcome!!!
I am doing the marble system by Ogram and also adding complementary medicine to my son's adhd treatment.I have found them very helpful. Go and check those sections.
