We seem to be doing a eevry other day pattern here on the adderal, One day he is fine the next he is weepy, angry, yelling and screaming. I am thinking of going back to the concerta now that it has been 6 weeks on this, it may start working again for a whle he was quiet on the concerta but never this angry all the time and crying at the drop of a hat...who knows, This is a pretty tough thing to figure out and I have been doing this for almost 3 years. We tried strattera but he was just swearing up a blue streak on that,,
My son is currently taking Adderall XR 30mg. Two years ago he started with 15mg. When he starts getting angry and weepy it usually means he needs to have the dosage increased. Of course, everyone is different so this may not apply to your son. Also take into consideration that you may be seeing more of that behavior then others simply because you spend more time with him in the evenings. My son tends to get cranky as he is coming down from the meds in the evening hours. Giving him some time to unwind or participate in a favorite activity helps. < =text/>
I think that when taking the Adderall or concerta it has to be switched not added I switch my boys back and forth between Adderall and Concerta. One takes Adderall the Other one takes Concerta then it switches because after about 3 months it no longer works but this way seems to be working very well. Also I don't think that they work well alone I think there needs to be something to balance it out the control alone will not work well. What else do they take with the adderal or concerta, my son takes trazadone at night to sleep, which lately hasn't put him to sleep at all. He is now taking 20 of the adderal release and 10 of the regular adderal at 7:30 a.m. He took 75 mlg of trazadone at 7:00 it is now almost 11 and he is still wide awake. When he took the concerta and ritalan he took trazadone and clonadine, we thought with the lower dose of adderal that he would be able to sleep. the first few weeks he did, but it isn't working anymoe. When you switch the meds every couple of months are you hiring the doses or putting them back on the same dose and what doses are they taking. Also do they seem to eat more on the adderal, he is always starving and has gained a ton of weight, on the concerta he never ate unless the med had to be adjusted, Thanks for your help.My son seems to have progressively gotten to be an angry individual over the course of the past 10 months on Adderall XR. He denies it, his psychologist denies it's the Adderall and now I'm thinking maybe it just might be the meds. He has not tried any other type of meds. Thanks for the input, this message board is helpful.
My son seems to have progressively gotten to be an angry individual over the course of the past 10 months on Adderall XR. That's what happened to my son, to the point that he alienated all his friends. We stopped the Adderall & went to Strattera. For my son it has really worked.

We tried strattera but he was just swearing up a blue streak on that,,When my sons Dr. put him on adderall, it was a living nightmare. He went from a sweet boy, to this monster kid, that i did not no. He would yell, and swear at everyone in sight, he also started getting into fights, with much older boys, and winning. It took a while for the Dr. to believe it was the medicine, but after proving to him what it was doing, he was switched immediately, and i have my nice kid back. What is he taking now? How much and do you think it is working?Hi lisadc, he is now on 54 mg., of concerta, he has been on so many med's. since he was five, but concerta is the only one that works, the only problem i have with it is when his weight goes up or down, then the med's. stop working, and have to be adjusted. But he does really well on this, i hope you find what works best for your son.
He was on Concerta for almost 3 years up to 72mlg and the doc added 25 of ritalin with it, the concerta doesnt work for him anymore, like you he has been on everything,. The adderal is finally starting to wrk he has been great, I think it was the Clonadine that he took at night that was making him so angry, since we stopped that he has been great, only problem is that it doesnt last nearly as long as the concerta did so we have to sometimes give him a booster in the afternoon; Hopefully we will get a while out of this before it needs to be changed again. I always know when the meds stop working too, he eats and eats...Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I was just wondering if anybodys child who is on Adderal seems more angry than before they started, He has been on Adderal XR 30 mlg for about a week now and he is so angry, more at me than anyone else. I noticed when he I took him to school today he went right in and played with the kids but was shooting daggers at me as if he would kill me. He has been on ADHD meds for 3 years now and we just switched him to this because the Concerta and Rittalin were not working anymore, I never saw him this angry on the other meds and dont know if the anger is a side effect from the Adderal. We are at the point were we can't even speak to him with out a screaming yelling match. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
