What exactly Tenex(guanfacine) helps with as far as ADHD symptoms?
My son is doing wonderfully on Concerta as far as acedemics, and it has helped somewhat with his impulsiveness/very quick temper. I notice a definate difference as far as medicated vs. unmedicated. However, he still has problems with 'going off' at the slightest provocation, especially in the evenings when I suspect the med has worn off.
Would Tenex help this issue? From what I have read here on the boards, it helps with calming, impulse control, etc.
Am I right?
From the small studies published, guanfacine helps with hyperactivity, calming, impulsiveness, memory, defiance, gaining weight, sleeping, but not attention. Shire has done studies using thier long acting guanfacine alone for ADHD and have requested the FDA to allow them to market the med for ADHD (which shows help with attention also). They also have a clinical trial open for the med for ADHD + ODD. Here is some info:
