melatonin is a very safe thing to use.  I don't know of any contraindications of any meds.  It can cause drowsiness so avoid when needing alertness is all.  It's so mild I cannot see any troubles.  I found at wellfx this warning:

Precautions: There are no known serious side effects to regulated
melatonin supplementation. Some people may experience vivid dreams or
nightmares. Overuse or incorrect use of melatonin could disrupt
circadian rhythms. Long-term effects have not been well studied. In
rats, melatonin decreases T4 and T3 uptake levels.
Melatonin can cause drowsiness if taken during the day. If morning
drowsiness is experienced after taking melatonin at night, reduce
dosage levels. In some cases of depression, daytime doses of melatonin
can increase depression.
May be contraindicated for those with autoimmune disorders and immune
system cancers (e.g., lymphoma, leukemia).
Because melatonin suppresses corticosteroid activity, those who are
taking corticosteroids for anti-inflammatory or immune suppressive
purposes (e.g., transplant patients) should exercise caution with
melatonin supplementation.
Melatonin could interfere with fertility. It is also contraindicated
during pregnancy and lactation.
Lack of sleep and insufficient exposure to darkness may suppress
natural production of melatonin

Thank you I was being to think I was not going to get any advise.  The risperdal was prescribed to my 4 yr. to help get him to sleep but so far I haven't seen any help. It is still after 10pm before he finally falls to sleep. I was giving him melatonin before he was prescribed this and it worked great.  The risperdal was also given to help increase his appetite and it does help a little with that. My son takes vallergan forte to help him sleep 10 mg's in a medicine form , they use it as a pre med before op's here, and we have some sucess with it. AMINO ACIDS AT NIGHT CAN HELP WITH SLEEP.

Does anyone know if it is ok to give Melatonin with Respidral?
