NO ONE SHOULD BE ON A HIGHER DOSAGE THEN THERE WEIGHT. MANY KIDS ARE ON TO MUCH AND ALSO USE A STIMULANT. THIS MED MADE ARE SON WORSE. SLEEPYNESS IS A SIDE EFFECT ALSO. THIS MED IS ONLY FOR LOW NEROPHENEPHRINE WHICH FOR OUR SON IS THE ONLY TRANSMITTER THAT IS OK. WE KNOW THIS CAUSE OF THE TRANSMITTER TEST HE GOT DONE.

our son took stratera for almost three years must have been close to 53 plds end of 6th grade was almost 67 last day of school took him off and is still off meds and is at 79  yes straterra holds pounds down make sure supplements are in his

diet as I always gave them...  I have left my job started my owm business so I can be there before and after school structure is  huge!!!!!! just like after school no break snack while doing school work or we will be doing it until 8pm one thing I have learned is structure almost like a person wit OCD once they learned rutine they will follow. I did I never took meds but back in those days we were troubled children and interupted everything.

Hello!  This summer our doctor greatly raised my son's Strattera dose to 60 mg.  He had previously been on 40 mg.  He is now 52 pounds.  He was 55 pounds when school started.  We also added Tenex this fall.  Now, behaviorally/attention he is fantastic.  Great improvement.  I really think the Tenex has helped.  But he isn't eating.  Like at all.  We moved the dose to take after lunch.  So he eats lunch, sees nurse to take his strattera.  He doesn't eat when he comes home for the night.  He eats next to NOTHING.  He takes his Tenex before bed.  But isn't sleeping through the night (hunger?).  Also.....we have the option to remove the Tenex and put Clonadine in there instead.  Doctor thinks this might help him sleep through the night.  Any experiences???  Thanks!!! I am having issues with Strattera as well. My son was great for the first 3 weeks then all of a sudden the beast came back!!!   MD says we should increase to 35 then maybe to 30 if that dosent work... I thought that might have been too high but from what I am reading I guess it isnt...We have found that our DS 7, will eat later at night.. his lunch comes back almost empty.. I have gone to what he says he will eat.. I am making him a salad and send in dressing for him.. He does eat and his eating around 9pm... he has gotten up from bed to have a peanut butter sandwich.. he is on a lower dose for his weight to due to stomach issues..

If the Tenex is not helping with the weight issue, and sleep is a pressing issue, trying the clonadine at night might be helpful. Clonidine is the same class of med as Tenex but is more sedating (causes sleepiness). My daughter's docter has us increasing the guanfacine (Tenex) until we see weight gain (but not more that 6mg/day). I am OK with this, because sleep has not been an issue for my daughter since starting meds.

On the weight issue... My daughter likes soup so I add a bit of olive oil to her chicken noodle soup and I make corn chowder with protein powder in it.

Anything to get the extra calories into her.

We just went through a nightmare with Strattera.  Had my son at maximum dose for his weight.  He's 10 years old.  Was told it takes 6-8 weeks to take full effect.  At five weeks, teacher said he was doing great.  At six weeks, we noticed he was becoming a zombie.  At seven weeks, we had to call 911 to help control his raging behavior.  He raged for four nights in a row and we finally figured out it was the Strattera.   Took three days to get out of his system.  Now he is just on Clonidine (has been on it for six months).  It mellows him but his ADHD is obvious.  Atleast now he is not angry and desperate. I would never have put him on Strattera had I known what would've happened to him.  We feel terrible for putting him through it.  We are now doing neurofeedback and staying away from all other meds, except the Clonidine.

At 52- 55 lbs the target dose of Straterra would be 27-41 mgs, 60 mgs is dangerously high. I would speak to the dr, and look at their website fopr dosage info!

it can take 4-6 weeks AFTER the target dose is reached to see effecys, so including the ramp period, actually more like 8-10 weeks.

Sounds like it was not the right med for your child. Some people just cannot handle the norephinephrine reupatke inhibitors, and it can cause these side effects and/or mood swings.
