adderall XR effect | ADHD Information

Hi (i used to be jackhass - thought it was too stupid!)
I am on 40 mg adderall xr but am gearing up to 60mg. a day. The effect so far has been unclustering of my mind, and more focus and more attention, but i am unsure of the realatively heavy addition of 20 mg extra.... any thoughts on this? That sounds like a big jump, in my opinion. You could always open a capsule and take half of it to get used to it slowly. I did this with my son, and it's a pain trying to divide those little balls, but it can be done.  My question would be: Why are they upping it if things are fine?  With stimulants, less is more as I understand it.  Good luck. You bring up a good question. In my case when I started about a year ago my doctor had me go to a higher dose than what is now my current dose. He wanted to understand if additional theraputic benefits occured at the higher dose. When he determined that there were no additional benefits, then we returned to the dose I am on at present.

The jump is not drastic. With XR you're getting half of the dose at first and the second half a few hours later. So if you were taking IR (instant release) your doses change would be from 20mg to 30mg.

If your doctor is having you dose upwards then they would normally do it in increments of 5mg or 10mg. So, you're in that range.
