My son was diagnosed with ADHD, but I am now choosing to have another opinion from a different pediatrician. I was told it could be either Aspergers, ADHD or ODD but they would treat them all the same.
But now I am searching for a very good diagnosis. I am having doubts about the diagnosis because I am having doubts about ADHD all together. I know my son has attention problems, but I am having trouble discering between ADHD behaviours and just normal naughty boy behaviours.
But that is my story and not so helpful for you, but it may help to know that you are not alone in your confusion
Sonuds like your son might need a med for adhd and a different med for anxiety like lexapro. I've been misdiagnosed many times in the past seems like evey doctor thinks something different. I was originally diagnosed as being depressed and was put on several anti-deprassants over a five year period because none of them worked. After changing doctors and getting off all the wrong meds I was finally diagnosed with ADHD and have been on Adderall ever since. My life has greatly improved since finding and treating my real problem. I don't know what your son is actually suffering from but for my self and many that have posted on this board it took changing doctors a few times and trying many different meds before we finally got help.
Good Luck
I recently took my son into the doctors because he was starting to have problems at school again. He has been on stratera for a year and was doing well until this summer. Once school started the battle was on again to do homework, behave in school, and behave on the bus. The doctor sent us to a pyscotrist for a med evaluation. This new doctor said my son had been misdiagnosed for having ADHD. He said brett actually has seperation anxiety disorder, and started him on Lexapro and Seroquel. I havent seen any change other then my son doesnt have night terrors anymore. My son informed me that he got into trouble 16 times last week at school so i now know that he is still not doing good at school. Last year after he got on Stratera he started getting straight A's, he is now flunking 6th grade. I dont know what to do. The school tells me that they cant do anything else to help him. I am at my whits end. Has anyone here gotten different diagnoses from different doctors? Is there something else i can do to make the schools help my son more?
Thanks, one very confused and frustrated mom.
what is asperegers sydrome Rae70?Youre Dr. must know that over-dependence, and therefore separation anxiety are well documented symptoms of ADD. I hope he's back on the Strattera.
