Generic Form of Ritalin? | ADHD Information

My 8 yo daughter was on Focalin for a year and we had great success with it. We just changed her to the Daytrana patch a month ago and it's not going well at all. Too many side effects for her - so we are going back on Focalin. If it makes a difference in your child's life, it is well worth the money (even though it's hard to suck it up!)

Well, It's extremely hard for both myself and his father to pay for doctors visits, AND Rx's.  If our health insurance wasn't SOOO bad, we'd be able to afford the payment for Rx's.  It completely sucks.  However, we are probably changing Health Insurance plans at work, so I MIGHt put Jon on mine.  That's only if I find it affordable and if I find out that the copay for Focalin XR is cheaper then for 30 days....

Agh!!!

My DS was Rx'd Focalin XR 5mg and today it was bumped up to 10mg.  I asked for a generic form and the doc said she didn't know of any since the patent hasn't worn off the new med.  Ok, fine.

So, when talking to DS's stepmom, she mentioned the generic form of Ritalin (since Focalin XR is a form of Ritalin) - Methylphendiate.  Does anyone know of this or had any experience with this medicine?  I googled it and it came up with horrible reviews from parents that had children on it for like 2 days.  Someone please help! .00 per Rx is EXTREMELY HIGH!!  I can't afford 1080.00 a year!!! Plus, with the Rx $, Copay for all of his Dr. Visits (the psychiatrist, Pedi that works w/the psychiatrist, and the therapist) at .00/visit PER doctor (.00 if all 3 are on the same day) every 2 weeks, so 0 in Dr's Visits, 90/month for RX...it's INSANE.

If anyone has any insight on the Generic form of ritalin - Methylphendiate, please forward it on to me! THANKS!!!!!!

There is no generic for focalin. There is a difference between focalin and methylphenidate. Mehtylphenidate is a mixture of 2 forms. focalin is only the active form (dexmethylphenidate). If a person has side affects with methylphenidate, focalin is can be an option with less side effects ("cleaner").

Short acting methylphenidate comes in several generic forms (it has been around so long there is not patent protection).

There are many long acting forms of methylphenidate and some of them have generics. There is a generic for metadate xr, and for ritalin sr, and one under FDA review for concerta.
