My 8 yr old ds has been on 18mg Concerta for 2 months now. Half way we added 5mg of Ritalin at 2pm. He takes 1-2mg of Melatonin in the evening.
Gosh, it feels so good to see everyone else post here who is so proud of their children and accomplishments since finding the right meds!
my son takes 30 mg of ritalin and 60mg of ritalin a day and its crap lol! thinkin of taking him off cos it is doing nothing for him This is my first time out to these boards and thought my experience may help others. My child has been on many medications but hallelulia this year we have hit on the best one yet. Daytrana patch 15 mg. She does not complain about it. Little side effects so far. And the best part: the patch can be applied any time during the day. She just needs to remove it 3 hours before bed time. So if she wants to sleep in on the weekends she can and then apply the patch when she gets up. If you haven't tried Daytrana I highly recommend it.my son is 15mg ritalin in am 10 mg at noon, 5mg after school. and 1-2 melatonin an hour before bedtime. I love ritalin!! ds is 7 and has been on ritalin for 2 years. My Kevin is 5 and takes Adderall 10 mg in Am and 10 mg at 2 pmtwins - 9 year old boys. Alec takes 150mg Wellbutrin XL and Kyle just started on Concerta 18 mg.
The Wellbutrin so far is steadily showing better and better results. He is developing a love for reading that he never had. He completed his first chapter book 2 days ago and he is in 4th grade! When I went to pick him up from after-care today, I couldn't hardly tear him away from a book he was reading. Before, it was like pulling teeth to get him to read since he has a learning disability in reading. The way I see it now is that at the rate he is improving he may be able to phase out of spec ed! His progress report that went out 2 weeks ago for the first time ever said he was satisfactory in "attentive in class" and "uses time wisely" ...not excellent but at least it wasn't "needs improvement" as it has read since kindergarten! He is going into his 7th week on Wellbutrin.
Kyle just started the Concerta this morning at 18mg. His teacher as of today didn't really notice anything different. This evening I noticed he had a small emotional outburst on the way home (mad at his brother but he screamed and got really frustrated while trying to make a point about something - I figured he was having a rebound from the medication and tried to just talk him through it) and he was really sleepy and crashed on the couch right when we walked in the door. I made him get up and I really babied him by drawing his bath and getting his towel and stuff and talking really sweet to him. After his bath he seemed to feel better and hasn't had anymore reactions tonight and seems to be in an exceptionally good and conversational mood. He had no appetite whatsoever for supper...I'll be giving him his regular 1.5 mg of melatonin to help him sleep tonight - 30 min before bedtime. He also takes a very good multivitamin/mineral and vitamin b-12 in the mornings - seems to take the edge off of his emotional problems.
Son 5 years old is on 5 mg of Ritalin 4 times daily. He lost 5 lbs since he started the meds. We were doing melatonin to sleep. Now we added an antidepresent to help with sleep and aid in weight gain. I love my child now that he is on Ritalin. Good reports from school for once!!
My ds Gregory is 6 yo and on 5mg of Ritalin 2x a day. We were going to try something else but our dr didn't realize there was no 10Mg dose of Ritalin SR! Go figure.
So far, we have seen improvement at school. We just had our parent/teacher meeting tonight, and she seems happy with the dose.
My son Jared is 8, he has been on a couple of meds, but about 6 months ago our paed wanted to try Adderall XR 20mg.
( since starting Adderall XR I have seen an emotional sensitivity and underlying agitation, has anyone else had these symptoms? He has had a dose increase twice now since June.)
