could any of you tell me how the Focalin affected your childs sleeping habits. We are trying it because he has trouble going to sleep on Concerta.
The difference between focalin and methylphenidate (in ritalin, concerta, daytrana, metadate) is that mehtylphenidate is a mixture of 2 forms, focalin is only the active form (dexmethylphenidate), and you take 1/2 as much as you would methylphenidate. If a person has side affects with methylphenidate, focalin is can be an option with less side effects ("cleaner").
Hope that helps.
My 6 year old is on 10 mg of Focalin XR. It is lasting about 8 hours. He takes it at 6:30 am because I teach high school and have to be at work by 7:15am. He is making it through school fine, but the afternoons are a nightmare. As to sleeping effects-----NONE!!!! He sleeps about 9-10 hours each night.
