Adderall XR twice a week? | ADHD Information

Share
For decades, doctors suggested kids take medicine only on school days - so it would be five days on, 2 days off.
Now, the past decade basically includes taking meds 7 days per week, to help with all areas of life - social, emotional, psychological, driving, etc. etc.
Some people are very sensitive to not being on the pill daily - as John D said.
Others are fine with it.
I guess it is up to you to decide what to do.
It is possible that a different med will help to control the ADHD without cutting out your 'out of the box' thinking. May be worth testing other ones over time.

Hi-

I like my Adderall XR a lot- it helps me focus and finish tasks that would otherwise go unfinished, and it helps me to organize.

However, I also like some of the out-of-the-box thinking that occurs when I'm unmedicated. I also like the fact that I eat a lot more when I'm unmedicated and my body feels a bit healthier.

So I have been experimenting (my psychiatrist isn't thrilled about this) with medicating just a few days a week- sometimes one, sometimes two, and occasionally three days a week.

What do you guys think? Has anyone else done this? Anyone think this is not a good idea? Thanks....

If I could go four days week without taking my medication and function reasonable well I wouldn't bother taking the medication at all. My opinion only though.

I've experimented a bit: no-med weekends and sometimes during the week for a few days up to 1 week+ med holiday.  I've pretty much concluded that the interruptions tend to amplify side effects (like rebound and emotional instability), so I pretty much stick to my 40 mg xr/day.

Everyone's different...I find that Adderall doesn't dampen my "out of box" thinking...I still do it, I'm just more aware (and usually better able to capitalize on it).  I exercise regularly and don't feel any difference health-wise if I'm taking the meds.
