Do you grind your teeth? | ADHD Information

Share

This may not have anything to do with ADHD but does anyone grind their teeth at night?  I grind mine even though I wear a teeth protector guard and my gums are receeding at the root.  This root exposure makes my teeth ultra sensitive.

Any remedies out there for this?  A friend of mind suggested hypnosis...

Mouth guards are a wonder indeed! I absolutely love mine ... It's perfect when driving long distances, flying, and of course sleeping. I have TMJ (maybe it is an adhd thing too ...) and am so happy that I discovered mouth guards.  i got mine done at a dentists and I personally recommend those bc they fit them exactly to your teeth and are therefore easier to sleep with ...

my son grindes his teeth at night i cant stand the noise its like finger nails scratching down a chalk board it goes right through me

i sleep with a tooth guard at night as a chew on the sides of my gums it gets really sore,  i have scar tissue on my gum as i do it every night even with the guard but it does help though.

maybe its because our (adhd) minds are always active. even when we sleep. im not saying thats a fact  but i dont think my mind sleeps

have experienced bruxism having taken tylenol/w codeine, demerol,(these post-op) and also chocolate is an offender;don't grind my teeth.but bite my cheek.

I do, always have and wear a mouth guard. Taking stimulants seems to make me grind my teeth more. Not just prescription stimulants, caffeine too. Decreasing caffeine, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep are all helpful.

Hello again LovelyLady,

Yes. I grind my teeth like mad at night apparently. A guard would be a good start, as it is ruining my teeth.

They say it's down to stress and insecurity.

I'm not sure I can be hypnotised..........I tried Reiki, but I'm not sure anyone can quite get me under and I honestly don't resist it either!

I believe it has its roots in a component of our evolutionary past.
Evolution is believed to occur through recycling (re)usable components.

exaptation ->- adaptation.

Back in the old days - when food was scarce - our prime raison d'etre was eating ->- grinding, chewing - mastication ...

:-)

As food supplies bacame more plentiful - the drive became less important and switched to the new 'eating' -

-development of mind.

I believe that the 'grinding' is associated with the adaptation arising from the exaptation - the exaptation being reactivated by proxy.

... omg! - no I don't understand what I've just written either - so time for a metaphor.

->- pedal the bike ->- travel forwards.
put the bike on legs - and *sure* the wheels will turn as one pedals
- one won't travel forwards (as we did before)
... but there'll be a slight tendency to inch forwards
- just because of the force (forwards momentum) being transmiited into the supporting legs.

So adaptation 1 ->- exaptation ->- adaptation 2 ->- which works real well - is used a whole heap ->- but which bleeds back into adaptation 1.

No, I don't even own a grinder, but I think the tooth fairy gets mine for me while I sleep.

I often clench my jaws together during the day, without noticing it until later when my teeth hurt.
