Hello everyone this is my first time on this website, I was looking on the internet for info about adhd and help with my son. He is 3 years old and he has been diagnosed with adhd for about three months now. He is taking medication (Dexedrine) but I dont think it is helping him, his emotions are all out of wack. One minute he is jumping all over the place and the other he is snapping out crying and everything..I am really scared, I know alot of his behavior is because he is three...but he tears my house up. And has been kicked out of the daycare three times! I feel like I should take him off the medication and try a different approach...any suggestions??? Please help me..thanks.
If he isn't responding positively, you need to talk to your ped about either adjusting the dose or possibly trying another med. There is also the chance that he is misdiagnosed. What type of dr diagnosed him and has he been on dexedrine the entire 3 months?Is this his first med? It may not be the right medication for him. We had the same experience with my son - then 5 years old - and Dexedrine. He also had a complete loss of appetite. It might take a while to find the right medication and dosage. Hang in there! You're not alone!! Hugs to you :)Who is prescribing the meds? A child psychiatrist or behavior pediatrician who specializes in medication management for ADHD?
What type of doctor diagnosed him? Sometimes when meds don't work it means you've got the wrong dx.
Daycares are frequently intolerant, BTW. I used a home daycare until my son turned 5.
Well the meds thing been there many of times over.. 8 different ones before they found the one that worked for my son.. He was diagnosed at the age of 3 as well as yours I felt like there was nothing that I could do but pull out my hair but my son is now about to be 5 yrs.old and I couldn't really ask for a better little boy ..Well I guess I could but I will take him just the way he is...... It all really depends on what everone else is saying what kind of doc. diagnosed him... Try to look in your area of like a behavior place of along those lines if it wasn't for them I probably would be pulling out my hair still... Well that is about all I could help with hope it helps. My son has had 2 incidents on the bus and he went totally blastic in the store. and he's only half day at school the School's not seeing it.....The bus driver and monitor see's it. I'm with you I need help too. Atleast my oldest didn't get kicked off the bus I'm hoping my youngest doesn't get kicked off the bus.
