Any advice? Son From Adderall to Concert | ADHD Information

Share

My son is 9 and takes 72 mgs of concerta. It takes my son between 30 min. -60 min to take effect. I do get the 12 hrs, though he starts eating sooner than that. He also takes guanfacine to control his "easily overstimulation", which has been a god send for him!

I wonder if you need to go up to I believe 54 mgs. Consult with the prescribing doctor if you do not see any difference. I would try an increase for him before I switched all together. If you don't, then you still won't know if concerta is the med. for your son.

My son has been on Concerta for 2 years. Adderall was horrible for him, made him psychotic! I would try the increase before the switch med. We have been very happy with concerta. I hope it works wonders for you, as it has for us!!

My 11 year old was taking adderall about a month ago and I saw a difference in his focus, improvement in school, etc.  However, the rebound was really bad.  He's now taking concerta 36 mgs and he doesn't seem to be showing much change.  He says it takes longer to "kick in" and I don't see a difference in him at all at home.  Concerta's supposed to last 12 hours, but that's not the case with my son....Anyone had similar situation and moved to another med with success?

My 10 year old son is on 54mg and we do get 12 hours, and like BETHANN, the only issues that he has is his overstimulation, and over the top reactions to small things...I am going to ask about Tenex (guanfacine) at his next doctors visit.

Try 54mg....we tried to go back to 36 to help with appetite issues and it did not last the 12 hours..more like 6-8hrs.  Ask the doctor about a dosage increase.

Tenex is a blood pressure med that has the off label use for some ADHD symptoms....it seems to ease aggression, frustration and anger, and helps to calm.  It is also supposed to help with appetite and sleep issues...I believe that guanfacine is on the Walmart prescription list as well, so I really think that it is worth a trial for me at least. Hey guys what is the Tenex (guanfacine) yall are talking about?  My son is on 27mg of Concerta with .25mg of Risperdal at night (Risperdal is supposed to help him with sleep and appetite but I don't see that is helping with that and also for a little calming effect and I maybe seeing a little of that) He does get overstimulated and then gets very over the top with his reactions.  I was just wondering what it is and if it might be something I need to ask my son's doctor about.  Thanks!

I think moving up is a good idea.  I just wasn't sure if he could.  He seems to be reacting well to it, but just isn't quite "getting him there" if you know what I mean.

Is Tenex (guanfacine) a mild anti-anxiety?  That would be nice to have for the overstimulation.

I have an appointment on Monday so, we'll see.  Thanks guys, for all of your support!  The webpage has been a godsend!
