my 7 yr old is going to be starting this next week,so i'm wondering do the kids who use this eat?my son is sooo skinny he cannot lose an ounce. i am so tired of the meds,he has been on about every one there is,they all seem great in the beginning and within a few weeks it seems like his body adjusts to it. he was on adderall 10 in the am and 10 at lunch, yet the teacher had to call me yesterday about his behavior,im sad because on adderall he ate really good.so now i'm all upset worrying about the patch. so any insight would be great.
I think that there are chances of appetite issues with all of the stimulants and daytrana is still a stimulant, just a different delivery system...maybe since it isn't going through the stomach there will be fewer problems.
If you do have appetite concerns, however, I have had very good success with Periactin (Cyproheptadine) added to my son's meds. Before we added this med which is just an antihistamine with the side effect of appetite stimulation, and weight gain, he rarely ate except for breakfast. Now he eats a good breakfast, an after school snack, and a decent dinner..I have no way of knowing if he eats lunch, since it is at school, but he does eat lunch on the weekends.
He has only been on it about a month, and has not gained much yet, but I am just happy that his appetite is back.
Tenex is also an option, I believe that it helps with weight gain as well.
Good luck with the daytrana
