Amantadine | ADHD Information

Share

Hi,

I am reading in Dr. Hallowell's book "Delivered from Distraction" about this drug called Amantadine which is a none-stimulant drug that has far fewer side effects than stimulant medications.

I would like to know if anyone on this board has any experience with this drug. Apparently, not too many ADHD doctors know about it, but some are using it with great success.

Here is link from some doc in AZ that compares all meds available for ADHD,

To me Amantadine has the least side effects on his chart too.

Hmmmm,

I can't wait for my appointment on Dec/26

I hope this new doc knows how to treat with Amandatine.(I heard not all doctors know about it yet)

thanks,

that is the common use that people identify Amatadine with, but very recently it has been discovered that Amatadine at Doses of 100mg-300mg (depending on the person's weight) has been effective to treat ADHD with far less side effects than most other drugs used for ADHD.

It is used for Parkinson, because it causes release of Dopamine,(it's a dopaminergic agent)

Dopamine is what people with ADHD lack of, and is what helps with focus and concentration.
