Wish I had had help!!!! | ADHD Information
BethAnn, if I were you, I'd take your kid to a NeuroPsych. All those symptoms together sound like autistic spectrum, not ADHD. Just a suggestion. A speech delay and sensory issues plus hyperactivity are all symptoms.
He was actually diagnosed by a neuropsych with ADHHHHHD, no autism just good old adhhhd!  We had him first evaluated at Boston's Children's Hospital due to the speech delay. But even back then he was WAY too social!!

My son plays on a team sport each season, hangs out in school with the jocks, his adhd medication is working, grades are excellent!!. I know that autistic/asp. children would never be part of a team for a fact!! He is hyperactive, like ADHD children, with a speech delay and sensory-but not serious as I believe some can be - self regulation stuff. Besides that, just a typical 9 yr old boy who has ADHD!

My sister-in-laws nephew has aspbergers. And not all autism kids have speech delays or even ADHD, they are misdiagnosed at first, even aspb. kids are sometimes diagnosed as ADHD at first, then as they get older it really is Aspberges.

Thank you

Just wanted to say hi.

I'm new here too. My husband is in the Navy so I know what it's like to deal with this as a single parent.

My son (almost 10) has adhd, anxiety, depression, possibly bi-polar, maybe ODD?

I think my 7 year old dd might have odd.

Hello I am new to this site and thought I would intraduce myself.

I am 25 and a single mother of two. A 7yr old Ethan and a 3mon old Logan.

It is doing me good to see that other parents are going through the same things that I too have gone through and still going through some.

I have been dealing with these things for the last 2 yrs alone and it is very hard.

My son has ADHD, OCD, Bipolar with Depression, IED Intermitten Explosive Disorder and PANDAS (Para Auto Nearological Disorder Associated with Streptococaus

That is a lot to deal with on your own. I wish I had had a computer to find this site 2yrs ago, and thank god that I have found it now.

Now when I just feel like crying hopefully I can get on here and get help.

If anyone has any advise on any of these disorders I am all ears.

Hi & welcome to the board.  You are not alone here.  I have a 7yo daughter who has ADHD.  This board is a great source of information & is a wonderful place to vent, ask questions, or whatever.....there is always a friendly person here!

Hello and welcome!

My son is 9 and has ADHHHHHHHD, speech delay, sensory integration.

This is a very friendly place and reading other's posts are not only educational, but they really do make you realize you are not alone!

I am so happy that you found this wonderful place. Post any thoughts, concerns. You are sure to receive a response!

Welcome:

I kind of understand your situation since I happen to deal with my son's adhd alone. My dh does not live with us due to work and I can also tell you that he is not really involved in my son's issues. In a few words, I don't have his support in this; he just doesn't care much. That is to say that I am the only one who goes to the neurologist, psychologic counseling, etc, etc, etc. I was also the one who decided to put my ds on medication; my dh said it was ok if it was my decision. Some times I get very, very, angry, I would like him to have his part in all this process. But he is too concentrated in other things, as work, just enjoying the kids, and personal issues. My husband is OCD(undiagnosed)

Well, my son is only adhd, and probably ODD too, I can see that you  are dealing with much more. Anyway, I don't have much of an advice for you , but I want you to feel welcomed and to know that you are not alone.

Welcome to the board.

Welcome, I hope you find this board a soft place to land.  You have a lot to deal with.  Don't forget to take care of yourself because your children need their mom!
Here is a good site for early onset bipolar disorder.
www.bpkids.org
www.bpchildresearch.org

PANDAS is not widely diagnosed in the US. I'm not sure what it is. A neurological disorder can be anything from ADHD to autistic spectrum disorder. Sorry, can't helpt here.

OCD can stand alone or be part of autistic spectrum disorder. The difference in the two is that with OCD people HATE their obsessions and want to quit doing them. In autistic spectrum disorder, people LIKE their obsessions and find them calming.

IEP is also not often diagnosed. To me it sounds exactly like bipolar disorder, so can't help you there.

I would see a Neuropsych since so much is going on with your kiddo.

Here's another site you may want to visit. Every diagnosis on earth is represented there so most parents know of even rare diagnoses, including PANDAS:
My son has been diagnosed with these things for a while but just took the pdd test and his score was 111 moderate case. I have never heard about this before, and when I was doing the test I thought that a lot of the things are there sounded a lot like his OCD and then it made me wander if it really was OCD?

But one of the meds for this just so happens to be one of the meds that he is already on. And yes I do think that some of the things he does calm him.

He arranges his toys in a row when he plays with them ALWAYS, he smells everything, he is obsessed with topics such as trains and animals, he gets attached to objects like rocks, sticks, and paper and will not get ride of them for anything, and he has to follow the same routine everyday.

Thats just a little bit of him. It's a lot for me to keep up with.  But since he has been out of the hospital he has been doing very well. So I'm not going to change anything as long as he is doing good.

Do you agree????????

O and another thing he does is when he talks it's like sometimes he gets stuck on the first word in his sentence and he will say that one word several times over and over again before he is able to finish what it is he is trying to say.

I remembered that because he just did it to me

He laughs in situations that are not funny, he extremely overly excited if we have been apart and I return, and oftain is afraid of different things and will hide under a chair, desk, table, in closet, or behind shower curtain.

thankfully even though I am a single mother I have made a budget for us so that I work part time during tax season and then stay at home the rest of the year so that he doesn't have to go to a sitter and I can be available ASAP if I need to go to the school.

Most daycares and people around here won't watch him anyway.

Welcome Young Mom,

I too am a single parent.  My dd will be 7 at the end of this month.  She has ADHD & Asthma.

Her father is Bipolar, undiagnosed ADD, and has Asthma.  I have mild OCD, prone to anxiety attacks, and I was once told I have IED although I don't know if I am fully convinced - I think it was more a symptom of the intense stress I was under at that time.  I also think I may be ADD.

This is a great place with alot of friendly helpful people.  Everyone is very caring and understanding.
