clonidine | ADHD Information

My son strated clonidine last night and I was just wondering if anyone has had any exprience with this drug?  It was prescribed for sleep and to replace risperdal that he was on.  It really helped with his sleep because i gave it to him at 7pm like I was told to do and by 8:20 he was asleep but he woke up and came to my bed at 2:00am.  He doesn't normally do this just once in awhile he will.  I don't know what woke him up and the whole reason for switching the med. was to help him get a good nights rest.  Does anyone have a suggestion or do you think it is nothing and I don't need to worry?

You may need to give it a couple nights to see how well it works. Clonidine works in about an hour and peaks in the blood at 4-5 hours and has a relatively long 1/2 life, but the sedating effects (the useful side effect that you are taking adbantage of) are probably much shorter and the metabolism of a child is different (usually higher) than the adults that they did the metabolism studies on.
