Meds not working? Maybe NOT ADD afterall? | ADHD Information

If you've been using 2-3 weeks you're still adjusting to the medication. I allso had some of the symptoms you describe. I had a terribly skewed sleep rythm before i started taking Ritalin, and the first few month I practically took the first pill in my sleep, then waking up 30 minutes later shortwinded and my heart beating fast. I allso had mood swings at first, but now I'm more harmonic and I feel I have a full spectre of feelings, unlike before I started taking Ritalin where I was either depressed, enthusiastic (hyper) or angry.

You might be taking a bit too high dosage, though.
I'm using 20mg at 08:00, 15mg at 12:00 and 15mg at 16:00;
and I'm 1,85 metres tall weighing 70kg.

I tried Concerta but it didn't work at all for me, wich suprised my doctor because all the other male ADHD'ers she knew who've tried it had good response. But after all, I'm the only male ADD'er she knew and none of the females (who're mostly ADD'ers not ADHD'ers) had tried Concerta. So we guessed that maybe Concerta works better on the more hyperactive type (ADHD) than on the mainly inatentive type (ADD). (Are there any research about this?)
WHY ARE MEDS ALL YOU HEAR ABOUT FROM A DR. THESE DAYS. i THINK THIS IS CRAZYNESS.i WILL STAY WITH OUR ALLERGIST AND HIS IDEAS. NATURAL THINGS.

How's that working for ya?

The meds can certainly give you energy.  They can also make you more focused on yourself b/c they give you the motivation, I feel, to do the things you want to do.  They really can be a double edged sword of sorts.  Try a different medication.  I found Concerta to be a lot less "ahh!" and anxiety inducing than Adderall (which also ended up giving me a mild case of tourette's ... watch out if you begin to have tics ... they can be permenant) ... Best of luck! You know... ivan, "Natural" isn't always 'safer' for one, they're not controlled by the FDA, and you're in the hands of the person giving them to you. I've seen several people I've been close with end up in the hospital (or worse, dead) from So-called Safe Natural alternatives. Natural treatment is very easy to overdose on because most think it's safe and easier to go overboard with.

I'll stick with the FDA Approved meds any day. I don't know how countries outside of the U.S Regulates things, but I'm thinking it may be somewhat similar.  I have absolutely no problem with people choosing the natural path, but for one to make claims that they're safer better, or the only way people should treat themselves is just simply wrong in my book. It's Everyone's Personal CHOICE to decide their own treatment. Neither way is 'wrong' if it works for you. Where do you think they get the ingredients to make the medicines today? They come from nature, but they're a lot of the times cut down to safer use levels and given better use guidelines.

I could not have said it better !! I use natural things a lot, but not for something as serious as ADD. I believe that diet can help A LOT. But I don't have the patience fo rthat.

"

you may not ADD, 2nd and maybe a 3rd opinion will be helpful

did your doctor tell you to double yours meds  maybe get a pill cutter and try 15ml it might be that 20ml each times was too much too soon good luck

When I was diagnosed with 7 years ago, they put me on Adderall.  It was truly a nightmare.  Although I was very focused on work, I wanted nothing to do with my family. I was very irritable and developed a tic.  After a few weeks, I switched to Concerta.  It was great.  I can't tell you how my life changed.  I compare Adderall to Pitocin (the drug they give you to induce labor).  That also turned me into the devil.

I have been on my meds now for 2 to 3 weeks. And I find that when I take the Adderall I am much more energetic, active, and can finish the tasks that I begin for sure. However, I was told that the stimulent in Adderall would calm the ADD'er DOWN - not pick them up this much. If I skip a dose I just sleep. But when I take a dose, I can actually function in life. But it's like drinking a ton of coffee. Shaking, hyper(not too bad though), full of energy................

And the worse symptom of all  MOODY. I have less interest in my children and more interest into myself (which is odd). The meds have made me narrcisstic? I take care of my children of course, but I don't sit down and play with them anymore, I have no desire to do so. I cannot even force myself, because then I just get frustrated with them. This kinda sucks. I posted this on another board too, hoping to get some answers.

Also, I find that I don't talk nearly as much, and also I want to be alone now more then ever. Just not talking, no people around, just alone and quiet doing organizing and cleaning. Not wanting to socialize whatsoever. And dreading going out into public. And still not wanting to shower brush teeth etc....

Since the meds aren't working, maybe I am not ADD? Maybe I am bipolar type 2 -- like they had originally thought?

I was taking 10mg 2 times daily. Now I am taking 20mg 2 times daily. The 10mg didn't effect me in the slightest, so I doubled up on it, then I got the energy levels.

Thanks,

Mia

I am not saying meds are all bad I don't like them. Natural can do wonders if given enough time. We follow the amount the lab says to do and don't do any more than that. Fda isn't always right either. It's hard cause cheating will happen with us all at some time.  IT WORKS GREAT FOR HIM HE GET'S SMILE FACES ON HIS BEHAVIOR CHARTS. A bip would help also so he is taught good behaviors for schools.
