hi there, newbie to the board

Hi my name is Deb and I have a 19 yr old son with fetal alcohol effects who has ADHD and might also be bipolar. He is meant to be on slow release ritalin but refuses to take it because he has a drug and alcohol addiction and knows he cant take his meds when he is drinking and smoking pot. He is constantly in trouble with the law and is going to court again this friday. I was told about another drug that he could be put on but know nothing about it. Its called respiradone? My son doesnt live home with me any more due to his behaviour but I love him dearly and would love to have his behaviour manageable so that he can come back and be with us.Hi and welcome. It sounds like you have your hands full but glad you haven't given up.

Hi Rae sorry I didnt notice your post sooner, must have been having a blonde moment lol

My nickname was given to me from some friends when I went to polytech back in '98. Think it was meant to be dweeble but the girl that started the name calling spelled it dwebble due to me being debbie so she did the ebb part to suit me. Either that or she couldnt spell too well rotflol!

Hehehe would make a good wee hobbit name tho wouldn't it?

Looking forward to knowing you more too.

G'day Dwebble (where does that nickname come from , sounds like a charcter out of Lord of the Rings)

Good to have you on board.  Looking forward to getting to know you.

Look up sleep apnea. It should always be considered in this kind of case. They gave tonsilectomies to something like a hundred cases like this and within six weeks all of them were different kids. Apnea should always be considered before bi-polar or ADHD yet I haven't yet seen it mentioned once on these boards. My family had one child on lithium until I mentioned this and the mother had the doc check it out and they decided they'd do a tonsilectomy just in case. The kid is like a different child now, off meds and happy. They say some huge percentage of people in prisons are apnic (sorry I don't remember exact numbers, I read tons of medical and science journals and I can't remember it all).
