voices in the mind | ADHD Information
hi all
can anyone relate to this, is this an adhd thing or is it just my head
from being young i can always remember laying in bed and in my head it sounded like 20 people all speaking at the same time but not being able to pick out any one voice. i found this really comforting and never ever thought weather it was normal or not. i remember telling my probation officer when i was 19 that the voices in my head had stopped. now when im in bed my mind is racing but with my own thoughts, insted of voices i hope that makes sence. did this happen in anyone eles mind when they was younger?
thankyou all for sharing your expearances
Hi, Mum. I know exactly what you experienced; I used to wonder if I was channeling other people's thoughts, actually. The ideas, thoughts, voices, words, images - were so many, so rapid, and so constant that I had to find other ways to quiet my mind. The most dramatic effect of starting medication this month for the first time is the relative quiet in my head; I never knew what joy it is to think whatever I want to think about, until I'm done thinking about it, and then choosing something else to follow. I felt for years as though my mind was in somebody else's control, and now it belongs to me alone.
I don't think its anything to worry about....I've experienced lots of weird things like that.....racing thoughts, strange images popping in and out...usually at night or right before sleep...freaked me out too at first, but unless its a discernible voice speaking to me, I figure its sort of like mental static. Ignore it and it goes away!
i have several always going on
i even find myself fighting back at them sometimes
even justifying my position to them
but the worst is when im in a golf tournament and the voices cause all sorts of distractions.
these voices i have found can be destructive but sometimes its the subconscious helping me do the right thing instead of taking a risk etc
I have to say, the only voice in my head is mine. But at times, it doesn't slow down for me to hear and take in every thing it says. any suggestions on how to slow it down? lmao I do write a lot {and I mean A LOT!!!} down. My dh gets tired of the little lists every where.

I don't get them in my head, what with my inner-child up there making a bunch of racket, but I hear them coming from my washing machine... only when its running though... and they always say the same thing over and over, "LET-THE-DOG-OUT-LET-THE-DOG-OUT-DOG-OUT-LET-THE-DOG-OUT-DOG -OUT-LET-THE-DOG-OUT-.. and when my freezer goes on auto defrost, a small scraggly ladies voice repeats- GIMME-GIMME-GIMME-GIMME-GIMME-GIMME-GIMME- and when it shuts off she goes- OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-MAN! I like my freezer, its arousing. I won't tell you what the crickets out here tell me, not nice!KIDD_ROCK4444 wrote

Nope... we are like-minded though, were both from Detroit
I can't say that I hear multiple voices... just my own.
looks like it is just me. oh well il just take this of my list of concerns when i see my phyciatrist, i dont want him to think im mad
DISCLAIMER: I'm not a neuroscientist, the following ideas are just the more or less qualified guesses and theories of an ADD'er who read Scientific American Mind.
Making theories from the little facts I know is my favourite hobby, wich makes some people think I'm an encyclopedia even though I usually say "I don't know, but I'd guess maybe..." or something.
I allso like to "go on and on", if I find the subject interesting (this doesn't make my guesse more "right"), so your'e warned this post is rather long.
I think I allso had voices like that before.. I allso, when i close my eyes, saw abstract shapes, silhouette patterns of rapidly changing and resizing and rotating, just like a WinAmp visual plugin but without colours and sharp edges. In fact it was connected to the intensity of the chatter; the more excited I was the more intense the chattering grew (and more often they said my name) and the pattern grew more complex faster. Then if I finally got sleepy (around 2 hours after midnight) the chatter decreased and pattern darkened and "psychedelified" and changed slower.
Now it rarely happends instead its my own "voice" keeping me awake with all sorts of ideas, an the pattern is replaced with random noise and lava-lamp shadows of light.
I guess it's just our mids inpretation of random neurons firing in the abcence of sensory data. I guess the brain creates different images and sounds from the nonsense depending on its age and its interests. I guess the young brain creates rather unfiltered experiences from the random input, while the noise in a more mature brain with more neural connections and memories will create new ideas; as well as it will probably filter out more noise than the young brain.
Maybe everyone experience this and they don't think about it, or maybe some people are experience the random noise more profoundly than others.
If this experience is typical for ADD/ADHD'ers, it's probably because others have more "agressive filters" on their sensory input channels.
I am a woman and always hear a man's voice when I think.
This is my mental voice I guess ,but why ?

I just became aware of this about ten years ago.
Any other woman have this ? And vice-versa ?(of course you men will never admit it)

Maybe it's like a parental voice thingy.
Oh I don't know......could it be Satan...... ?
