DAUGHTER HATES PROZAC | ADHD Information

my  15 year old daughter has ADD along with emotional disturbances. she is on 10 mg prozac a day.her mood before prozac was mean, angry, and very shot all the time. with everyone, parents, siblings, teachers. it was so bad it was interfereing with her schoolwork.

now sher has been crying that she doesnt want to be on prozac anymore. But because of the med, she is calmer, happier, more chweerful. but she says she feels "fake". she said even though she appears happy on the outside, she is unable to feel joy on the inside.that she doesnt get excited about anything.

But when i watched her interact with her friend, she was happy, smiling, laughing. so i dont get it. she talks to me now, where before prozac she didnt. now she shares her thoughts with me, her time, she is more open. she is much better on the prozac.

but she is resisting it. are any of your kids on prozac, or yourself. are you in the same boat?

n1Lady39060.2206944444I've had bad depression problems most of my life and took a lot of antidepressants. The one I'm on now makes me feel normal. There were some that made me feel really horrible and I quit taking them. Prozac was one. Although everyone is different, it made me feel a little too giddy, I couldn't stay awake, I had horrible nightmares, and one day it just pooped out completely and I was more depressed than ever, so I stopped without telling a doctor (being an adult, I pretty much would decide that if something wasn't working, I wouldn't take it). I'm sure I didn't appear as bad on the outside as I felt on the inside. IMO you have to be careful not to make kids take meds that help YOU out, if the child feels bad on it (she will probably stop on her own anyways if she doesn't like how it makes her feel). There are many other antidepressants. That's just my .02 and experience.

My 7yr old is on prozac and actually the same dose.

Should I be worried about that. That he has the same dose as your 15 yr old

He loves his meds and loves the way they make him feel and often will come to me when it's getting close and ask to take it. He can feel when he needs it.

But I agree that if she isn't happy on it you should maybe try something different. My sister takes Lexapro and my sister in law at one time was on zoloft and now also takes lexapro.

So like Dominique14 said there are lots of different Antidepressants out there.

DEPRESSION/HYPOTHYROID CAN BE MIMICKERS. i DO ARMOUR FOR MY THYROID IT'S NATURAL AND BETTER.
