Ephedra/ephedrine for ADD? | ADHD Information
I know my heart rate speeds up when I take it which is why I stick to the lower dose. You don't always know you have a bad heart until its too late unless you have had multiple tests. Its just not worth the risk.Has anyone tried using ephedra (AKA Ma Huang) for ADD?
I think I suffer from ADD, (I'm 42 YO) but I dont have insurance and the cost for the tests etc will be around 00.00 (!@#$% US healthcare)
I know self medicating is not encouraged, but what can I do?
MONTEL DID A SHOW ON THIS DRUG ALL i HERD WAS BAD SIDE EFFCTS. The side effects (heart attack, etc) ONLY OCCUR when someone takes a large amount of the drug.
A normal dosage, 10-50 mg, should NOT cause a heart attack, UNLESS the individual has a heart condition. In this case they should not take any stimulants, even caffeine, and should be under a doctor's care.
Normal dosages of ephedrine should not cause any serious side effects.
The bad publicity that ephedrine has recieved in the media was started by a couple of high-profile athlete deaths from massive overdoses. Subsequently, the families of the dead hired lawyers who saw an oppurtunity to sue the ephedrine sellers. They wanted to create a hostile environment towards ephedrine in order to get $$$ for their clients and themselves.
I take it when my asthma kicks in bad. It works for that but I would never suggest to anyone that they take it on a regular basis. It has been known to cause heart attacks. I rarely take more than 1/2 a dose when I do take it which isn't often.
ephedra is a stimulant primarily used for weight loss, which is what many people are using adderall etc for.
You are definately better getting tested rather than experimenting with medications which are commonly believed to be dangerous.
You should be able to get basic testing for only a few hundred dollars!
Just a note- this product is illegal to sell in the US. The FDA banned it for good last August.

Well that just stinks. I'm nearly out and now I can't get more. I guess I'll be shelling out big bucks for meds for it now because there are times when the inhaler just doesn't quite do the job.
I was told and herd side effects of these meds can lead to heart trouble/stroke. which are going on the meds as a warning label. All meds. can produce side effects.
