no diagnosis yet | ADHD Information
I suggest a neurologist. My son had his dx by one and I was completely satisfied with all tests my son had to finally diagnose his adhd. I would say that it was a very complete medical study: It included psychological and medical tests.
Good luck!! and welcome to the board.
Specifically my son's doc is a neuro ped.hi, i'm new to the forum tho' not the problem. i have three gorgeous boys, only my eldest is a problem. He has been 'driven' since he was born, really screamed until he could sit, only really happy when he could walk and hasn't stopped since. He has always been really uncontrolable and we first sought help age four because he was throwing chairs hurting me etc... we were sent on a parenting course. We didn't learn much that we weren't already doing but the support was nice. He continued as before never sitting still watching TV upsidedown while swinging off stuff. Playing soccer up and down the living room. Then the agression started to get scary, he is slight because he doesn't stop moving but he is tall. He began to get very verbally abusive lots of F you's and F'ing this and Fing that, breaking stuff etc.. no control at all. More parenting courses and some counselling. No real improvement. The problem is although he is distractable at school and doesn't finish stuff/ remember equipment/ spends ages under the blinds looking out the window and now they give him blu tack to play with to keep his hands occupied, he isn't disruptive and he is really bright - so they aren't pushing for any action. We did get a paediatric referral from the school nurse which was hopeless, she just wanted to know if he had hospitalised anyone yet?
At the moment he is like a coiled spring, a nine year old with no self control he swears hits his brothers throws things wrecks things, can't keep still - he's in the garden playing soccer at 7 in the morning if i don't tell him people are still sleeping. one to one he is copable with - doesn't stop talking but with 100% attention he doesn't get frustrated. We are doing everything that we have been told in terms of discipline but it doesn't work, it has never worked. He isn't the same as my other boys, he is gorgeous, sparky ,bright and talented but impossible to manage and the prospect of a teenage boy like this is terrifying, dad is 6'4" and my son shows every sign of being very tall too. Any ideas would be welcome
