The knights are attacking | ADHD Information

You are right about what he is watching and what games he is playing.  He does enjoy playing allot of fighting video games.  He was just over at his older cousin's house and he played some games that definitely would not be allowed to be played at home

When I asked him tonight what the deal was he said "well I just have a very good imagination"  I told him I was worried about him and asked if the knights were real to him.  He smiled and said "don't worry I just wanted to go home".

He has never had anything like this happen before.  I am going to keep a closer eye on what he is watching and playing.  Also if anything remotely similar happens again it's off to the psychiatrist for med review!

I am definitely accepting any and all comments.........Thanks!

kids can be so mind boggling sometimes... gotta love them

goodluck with everything and keep us posted

My DS-7 is very into star wars and weapons.. sticks mainly, he has always inserted him self into stories etc. We have had many talks on movies and how they are made.. when we went to Disney, we spent a lot of time in MGM showing him the back lot etc..

Be sure he knows what is real and what is not... Nate really wants to be a Jedi Knight, even though he knows it is not real.. He still talks about what if he could be one...

My son is 8.  He is ADHD/ODD.  He is on Concerta and Tenex.  He has some motor tics-they can be quite severe.  His teacher called yesterday concerned about his behavior.  He was not being bad he just couldn't seem to get control of himself.  It was a bit like he didn't get his meds or something.  They let him rest in a quiet room.

I guess he started talking about knights and fighting and began telling a vivid story which included him in it.  His teacher said it was so vivid it was like he was hallucinating.  Now this is starting to scare me.  He really does have a unique imagination but i am scared that he was seeing things.

Today I guess he fell asleep for an hour in class (he never does this)  But it happened to be when they were doing subtraction which he has allot of problems with-so it may have been a way for him to escape doing the math.

I haven't talked to Erik yet about the knight incident.  He sometimes will do stuff like that to get the school counselor all riled up (he plays mind games with her)  But he did this with his teacher whom he has great respect for and nobody could get away with playing mind games with her.

I know everyone has allot on their plates this time of year, but if anyone has any thoughts I would be glad to hear them.

I can't wait to see what he says about the knights-I am sick to my stomache thinking about it!

Thanks

I would be concerned also and would certainly issue an emergency call to your prescribing physician as well as a pediatrician.

Fuel for thought...

One question I would have is what type of t.v, movies, books is he exposed too?My son has an imagination as well but quite honestly since I have limited the type of shows he is watching, I've seen a major change.  Still creative and imaginative but less of the "Power Ranger" type of play.

I agree though that it wouldn't hurt to talk to the doctor about this.

I guess another question I might have would be if he does this at home sometimes, a lot, or little?  I'd think if you see it in both scenarios then it would be something to check into.

IMHO, this whole knight thing is hearsay. You did not see it. Your son and his teacher tell different stories about the incident. I've never acted on anything the school staff has said unless I see it also, and concur with their conclusion. That type of stuff is 100% subjective. The teacher has no mental health training. Who knows what happened. I'd drop it and just keep an eye out.

I've also eliminated violent media, but I've gone pretty extreme. There can be no hitting at all in the media. I've also eliminated all action figures, and war toys. If I catch him play fighting with toys, they are confiscated.
