I would bet anything it is the Zyrtec, it makes my kids go bonkers.
Also, why the seroquel? Is there a BP diagnosis? If so then stims are not the right med.
My son also became worse while on his meds. He is taking 50 mg of imipramine for anxiety and adhd at night and 200 mg of seroquel at night for bipolar nos and insomnia. When we added in the zyrtec for allergies he got worse so we took him off of the zyrtec. zyrtec is an antihistamine and some children that are adhd cant take anything that is antihistamine. You need to check to see if there is any drug interactions with the allergy med. My pharmicist was very hestitant about filling the rx for zyrtec because of the meds my son was on. She told me to watch out for unusual behaviour and she was right. Have you tried singulair for the asthma and allergies yet? My son seems to tolerate it betterIs she worse while the ADHD med is in her system or when it is wearing off (posible rebound)?
If she is worse when the meds are in her system, the meds could be the wrong med, the wrong dose or the diagnosis is wrong, and with the mix your daughter has, diagnosis is difficult to say the least.
Because your daughter has bipolar with the ADHD, I would make absolutely sure that the mood stabilization meds are fully effective before dealing with the ADHD meds. It may also be that a med like guanfacine (Tenex) would be a good choice for the ADHD. It is not a stimulant and helps with defiance and impulsvity. Worth discussing with the doctor.
What kind of doctor does you daughter see? and what are the meds?
vickie39065.6387847222She is worse when they are in her system. She sees a child therapist, a counselor at MHMR and a Psychiatrist through MHMR, but the meds she is currently on were started during her last stay at the hospital which was just 3 weeks ago. She is on 27 mg of concerta, 50 mg of zoloft, 12.5 mg of seraquel in the morning and 25 mg at night as well as the advair disk and 5 mg of zyrtec for her athsma/allergies.What is the problem with ADHD kids and antihistimines? Why does Zyrtec make them bonkers? I've just never heard this and both my kids have allergies/asthma.
Thanks, Jo
Okay, so that is a ridiculous amount of medication for a child to take.
