Wetting pants | ADHD Information

Thanks for the replies.

He isn't wetting the bed or having nighttime accidents - these accidents happen during the school day or after school. We're trying some behavioral stuff i.e. going to the toilet every 1/2 hour even if he says he doesn't have to go. Hopefully the doctor can help us.

Kelsea 6 she is on 18mg of Concerta and she has started having accidents at night and she has not done that since she was 2 1/2. Its very frustrating to her.

My 7 year old son started wetting his pants about a month ago and now it is happening every single day. He is on ritalin and dx'd with ADHD. Ritalin has seriously saved our sanity and he's a different (and AWESOME) kid on Ritalin (ok - he's awesome off Ritalin, too, but he's more tolerable on it!)

We have a doctor's appt next week to rule out bladder/uninary issues, but has anyone ever experienced this as a side effect to Ritalin? He's been on Ritalin since March of this year. 10 mg. in the AM, 10 mg at noon and 5 mg at 4 pm. Time release wasn't effective.

Any ideas? Thanks.

We have the same issue.  My son takes Medidate CD, risperdal, and lithium.   We went to a specialist and had testing which all showed as normal.  Our psychiatrist says that some medications can cause increased urine production (lithium is one) but he was having the difficulty prior to lithium.  The doc also said that it can be stress related - a nervous bladder which causes you to have feelings of frequency (needing to go a lot) and therefore more accidents.  Hope it helps.  I would still check it out with your doc first.  We were prescribed  a medication to reduce the amount of urine you produce at night.  Good Luck

I found my son doing this when he hyperfocused. It only happened at home and  was on the computer or playing a video game.

He eventually stopped. It was more that he wet his pants because he waited too long before stopping what he was doing to take the time to go the bathroom!

My second oldest son began wetting his pants about the same age.  I was encouraging him to take gymnastics like his older brother, but he didn't want to.  He told me over and over that he didn't want to.  I still kept him in the class, hoping he would like it.  I had already paid the tuition, etc.

Well, finally, after a week of wetting his pants every day, I put two and two together.  I told him he didn't have to go to gymnastics.  He quit wetting his pants right then, and has never had a problem since. (With wet pants or with a mom who wouldn't listen to him)

I'm not saying that this is what is happening with your child.  I am just letting you know what my experience was.  I thought it was pretty interesting that my son figured out a way to get me to listen to him when I wouldn't.

Has anything changed with his clothing like new underwear or something?  There is an infantll reflex that can cause a child to urinate.  Look up gallant reflex.  Just a thought.
