If you find that this med does not do the trick, look at guanfacine (Tenex) to go with the concerta. There are several threads on guanfacine, if you find you need to explore that option.
It works great...although he is on 4mg morning and night...he now says he is hungry and eats a big breakfast and a decent snack and dinner...I still think lunch is an issue...but I cannot know because he is at school..
He may have gotten a tad more moody, but I cannot be sure if that is from the drug or that he is tired, or the med stopped working as well. He has circles under his eyes from poor sleep.
I am going to ask the doctor about guanfacine on Monday when we go.
be very careful giving a antihistamine to a child that is adhd. For some reason antihistamine seem to change their behaviour for worse. Sometimes there is a drug interaction with the meds. I know I gave my son zyrtec for allergies that is antihistamine and he was having alot of problems, as soon as we took him off of the zyrtec he was fine again. My 7 year old son has been taking concerta since August, and it seems to work great. But, his appetite is awful. I have tried the pediasure, carnation drinks, etc, and it does not work, he refuses them. He was 49.5 pounds at his 7yo checkup in Feb. I took him to ped the other day, because I am so concerned about his weight and not eating. He lost 3 pounds. So, the ped put him on periactin 2mg at night to help with his appetite. It is a antihistamine, which according to the insert from pharm, said it is also used to treat anorexia. Anyone else hear of it, use it, or any other info would be appreciated.
Also, he has only taken it for the past 3 days, and he did awful in school all 3 days. I don't know if it is a side effect of it or not.
thx, Donna
