Daytrana adhesive problems | ADHD Information
The freezer works, and make sure the skin is VERY clean, I use an alcohol swab before putting it on dd's bum.Hi, I am new to this posting board but have dealt with an ADHD child for several years. My son (10) was put on Daytrana on Wednesday. We have tried to no avail to get the patches to stick. It seems like when you go to take the backing off the adhesive and medicine stick to the backing and thus it doesn't stick to his body. I finally just gave up and haven't been putting them on. I called Daytrana and was advised to put in the freezer for a few minutes but that still didn't help. If anyone has some other help please advise. My son has been on almost every ADHD medicine but they lead to severe migranes and stomach aches, that is why we want to try the patch. Any help would be appreciated. ThanksAs soon as you put it on, hold your hand on it for about 30 secs. The warmth seems to activate the adhesive. If that doesn't work, take them back to the pharmacy and ask them to replace them with ones that stick. If you leave the patches in a hot car or expose them to heat, the adhesive doesn't work as well. Some have had luck sticking them in the freezer, some not. It's possible that they were exposed to enough heat during shipping and that's why you're having problems.
Nicnac, I heartily recommend trying the patch. It's been a Godsend to us. Ds says that there are no low points in his day. He can focus at the same level all day. It never seemed to matter when math class was in his schedule. That was always the low point! The drop-off of meds in his bloodstream is not so sharp and there's no problem with afternoon rebound. PM me or post your questions if you have any. I'll check back on this post later on tonight and tomorrow, too.
nicnac and ce, don't give up yet!
I am thinking of changing my daughter to Daytrana any advise? She takes Concerta now but it's a struggle to get her to take a pill.
Thanks!
I have figured out the part of getting it to stick to him. I am still struggling with the getting it off of the backing though. I have found that I have to rub something very hard onto the backing to get it to come off. This is very aggravating though since this can sometimes take 30 minutes. I have tried the freezer no luck. I think peeling the backing is easier if you start each half and then peel one at a time.
ce, did you try holding your hand over it for 30-60 secs this am? How'd it work?
Than kyou for your support, this has been a struggle for the whole family!
My husband has symptoms of ADHD so he feels responsible, my daughter (8) doesn't understand why she has to take a pill everyday (she only takes it during school year to help her focus). No matter how many times and ways I try to explain it to her, she doesn't unserstand. BUT you can see that it works by looking at her daily agenda from school. When she does take it she gets a :} when I cannot get her to take it and it's not worth fighting over anymore she gets :{.
I am hoping that we will get the all clear on the patch. I am concerned with tics and the red mark I've read about here on the boards. I am glad that you have had success! Thanks for the application tip!

I haven't seen much advice on daytrana patches but for the nicotene patch they recommend the alcohol that was mentioned earlier and also to make sure to use the flat of the back or other non-flexing body part. Also its been mentioned that you can apply adhesive bandages over the patch to keep it flat against the skin. There I'd recommend elastoplast brand - it sticks very well even on oily or wet skin. They have large bandages and you might get two or three over the patch to keep it sticking.
ok, this is a long shot, but have you tried flonase before putting on the patch? Apply it to the area, rub it in, let it dry and then try it. It might help it stick. It's used to prevent rashes with the patch (off-label use) and I just thought it'd be worth a try.
Also, have you returned the non-sticking patches to the drugstore?

My daughter is 15 and has been on concerta for a few years. We feel that it is time to change her meds as she just isn't responding as well to concerta (she is on 91 mg.) She has become just totally emotionally volatile and hyper again, although I am sure a lot of it has to do with hormonal changes as well. We are considering the patch, but I don't know a whole lot about it. Does anyone have an older child (teenager) that uses it and are there different doses? I want to be well informed of my different choices before we go back to the Dr. THANK YOU!
I also am having lots of problems peeling the back off. The ones we get are diagnol cut, I try peeling one side then the other several times, ends up with most of the medicine pulling off. I am so frustrated with these. They work good for my son though. I am getting ready to take this box back to Walgreens today as it is a new box and already this morning I have wasted two patches trying to get the backs off. I will try the freezer though. Any other suggestions?
I am so glad I found this board
alcohol swab and allow to dry. DOes your son have oily skin?
