Getting a kid to cooperate with a tutor i | ADHD Information

My son used to be like that before. He would throw a tantrum for therapy time and was uncooperative with them. Fortunately he has overcome all this. I guess that he just realized that there is no way out but to go and to cooperate. I used to tell him that he could cry, yell, and protest to the world if he wanted, but he was going to the therapy anyway. Also the therapist usually finds ways to negotiate so my son feels ready to work; however, this negotiation has stopped, it was only at the beginning.

The therapist could find a kind of reward for your dd after she has worked. Ex: my son's therapist told my son that when they have finished all the reading and writing work, she would give him some time to use playdough which my son loves. This way he felt more motivated and willing to cooperate.

My dd has a handwriting tutor.  She has fine motor delays and visual motor impairments, so handwriting is really hard for her.  She is getting to where she is so resistant to workign with the tutor that she is being whiny, uncooperative and downright disobedient.

I know that it's hard for her, but I'm getting really frustrated with the fighting.

Have you tried an occupational therapist? I think that's what they do. Maybe you need someone with a different approach.

I agree with NO TELLIN's post.  If your child needs help with writing it could be due to the way they apply deep pressure to the pencil or even the way they hold it. My son has an OT at school who helps him with this. From what I understand, it may even hurt her when she writes and that may be the reason for her resistence.

I would look for an OT who could help with this. Maybe even inquire at the school

it was with a different specialist,a speech therapist for us.

the one who did his assessement was hopeless and jude would not cooperate, the second one used board games to get his attention focused and it worked a treat.
