It sounds like you have a good start with this med. I hope it turns out to be the right med for her.
The main differences in generics vs brands and other generics, is the inactive ingredients in the tablet. These can make a difference in how a med is absorbed or even some side effects (if a person is sensitive to the particular additive). Stay with the same brand of generic. Changing from one brand to another can really complecate things. If your daughter were to have mild side effects or the med does not seem even enough, switching to a different brand would be an option before trying a different med.
my dd was switched from adderal xr to ritalin a week or so ago. on the adderal she had stomach aches and insomnia. since the generic ritalin things have been so much better...appetite, sleep, mood, etc. however, after she was prescribed the generic version of ritalin i read on another site to NOT start the generic version of a medication until you tried the true version first. i wish i would have know this prior...does anyone have an experience with this? just curious....right now my dd is on such a low dose-2.5 mg x 2...but she's eating, sleeping and in a better mood...we're waiting to see if she's been focused at school this week. i just emailed the teacher and i'll be talking to her on thursday in person:) * i decided to give the teacher a break for a couple days...i know that my dd isn't the main focus of issues in the classroom:)
hugs,

My son recently (about 2 months ago) switched to a drug called Biphentin, which I was told is not ritalin, but in the ritalin family. It has really been working so much better for my son. He was on Adderral previously, but the side effects were really a problem. We took my son off Adderral for the summer months, and he gained 10 lbs in 2 months. His appetite came back, he slept better, and so on. When he started up school again, focus, disruptive behaviour, and hyperactivity were clearly still a huge problem. He started with 20mg of Biphentin in the morning, and it has been great!!
He is sleeping better, eating, the works. He still is very hyperactive at home and school, and his teacher continues to stress that repeatedly. But we can tweak it more now that he has gained some weight. Thank goodness, he is so thin already.
