Lexapro

Has anyone tried this?  I was given the prescription today but I am hesitant about using a drug.

I used it for awhile did nothing for me but make me extremely tired. Of course some it works great for. It really is different for every person.

What is your condition, why were you given lexapro?

I've decided not to take any antidepressants anymore. For me they are more trouble then they are worth. The only med I take now is Adderall.

I've been taking it for a little while and it works for me, but as with every type of these drugs, it's definitely an individual thing.  I was on Welbutrin for a while and that made me really irritable so they switched me to Lex...  Lexapro saved my life. I was hospitalized 3 times since last
May with severe suicidal depression. Nothing worked. I finally
tried Lexapro and the depression went away immediately. I
have been feeling great for 4 months. ( 10 mg per day)
No side effects. Also take 225 mg Lamictal for bi-polar disorder.I just hope the Lexapro keeps me from being so irritable.  I cant even stand to be around myself on Wellbutrin.  I feel like a monster and have road rage.

The effects of antidepressant/anxiety drugs vary widely from person to person and gererally require some trial by error before settling on one the is most effective for you.

Personally, I had horrible side effects using Lexapro and Paxil, was switched to Wellbutrin [150 XL]and have been doing extremely well without any negative side effects at all.

I have been On lexapro for 4 Weeks. I feel "Great" I have never been depressed before. I have a great life. Nothing to complain about, Until a personal thing happend in my life where I could not cope or deal with myself. I tried for 4 months to get thru it, I just couldn't. I cried at the drop of hat. When my Doctor told me to try Lexapro, I said OK. I really feel good. I feel I can go on with my life and be myself again. I have no side affects at all. I will continue taking it. It works for me. thanks for your posts this is my 2nd week on lex and I think I am not as irritable or perhaps I should ask my husband.  This is a stressfull time at the office too.  So far no strange side effects so far.

Hey all,

My doc is going to probably put me on Lexapro tomorrow, so this is all interesting to me. I got dx'ed in August with both ADHD and major depression, but they only wanted to treat the depression, and i only wanted to treat the ADHD (I won). I think I thought if hte ADHD got "fixed", it would all go away, but it hasn't (course the ADHD hasn't gotten better either) and it so much worse. I started having suicidal thoughts last weekend, and knew I had to do something. So tomorrow, onto meds to keep me sane enough to keep on keepin' on.

Does it work okay with Ritalin too?

Dear Distracted,  I think it would work with Ritalin but Ritalin made me feel really bad like you are feeling so now I take Adderall instead.  I am always near if you need to vent.  I hope the Lexapro works for you.
I have been searching and searching the web for any information on Lexapro that I can, including message boards like this.  What I am concerned about is the night sweats I am having.  I am taking 20mg, for appr. 6 months and I experience night sweats every night.  Last night though, I for some reason fully came awake, got up and realized my t-shirt was drenched.  As I changed I could feel sweat running down my body.  Like I said I know that I have them....I wake up and know I am sweating and my clothes are wet but I guess I usually just go back to sleep.  But last night scared me.  It cannot be good to loose that amount of water from your body.  Could that be the source of my exhaustion?  Help me, if anyone else experiences this please let me know.  I am just about to lose all faith in anti-anxiety/depresents.  I mean it might be doing me more harm than good.  Like I said I can't find anywhere that describes them to the extent that I get them.  Thank you and take care.

I am so relieved to know that there is a cause for these extreme night sweats.  I started taking Lexapro about 9 months ago, and within 3 months the night sweats started.  Up until a couple of months ago, there was only mild sweating, I actually had sweat running down my legs and soaked the bed, sheets. I only sweat from the waist down, and I am not hot when it happens, just clammy.  I was afraid it was the start of "the change", but I am only 38.  I knew the side effect of Lexapro could be increased sweating, but I never dreamed, drenching sweat.  I noticed that I am a little warmer during the day, but considering that I am always cold, that isn't so bad.  I really love my Lexapro, cause it has helped me gain control of my moodiness and make me able to relax instead of stressing over situations.  I take the Lexapro in the morning.  Has anyone out there found a way to deal with the sweats besides stop taking the Lex?  Let me know.  cbullock@dcherald.com

Night sweats are a common side effect if it is causing that much of a concern I'd definately try another medication. As for exhaustion don't think the sweating has much to do with it but you never know. I know Paxil was no good for me because it caused extreme exhaustion but I didn't have night sweats or at least not that bad on that med. Between the constant tiredness and weight gain Paxil was not the med for me. I actually had much better luck on Celexa. LOL of course I had tried and had horrible results on a ton of medications before finally finding what worked. I was so glad to read about the "night sweats".  I started taking Lexapro about 6 weeks ago and for the past 2 weeks I've been having night sweats every night.  I was thinking that it could be perimenopause, but I'm having no other symptoms for that.  The sweating is from the chest down, but mostly my legs.  It is really weird, I mean why would we sweat only in certain areas???  Anyway, I was very happy to read all of these posts.  I'm only taking 5 mg of Lexapro.  I'm really sensitive to meds.  I tried 10 mg and felt like I was on speed and started having these strange "heat waves" go through me.  But after being on 5 mg for about 6 weeks I have to say that it is working for me.  I came across this board after doing a google search for a relation between Lexapro and increased sweating, especially at night. The sweating at night began rather early on in my Lexapro use (I've been taking it about 2 years now), but it has become more frequent. I sweat mainly on my stomach and legs, enough that it drips off of me. It's becoming a bit of a drag, as my sheets get kind of stinky quickly and the dog attacks me with kisses as soon as I get out of bed.

I hope to find out something I can do about this, as Lexapro really works for me. Paxil and Trazodone are the only other 2 medications I have tried, with awful results.

I too have been taking 10 mg of Lexapro per day and have never experienced the type of night sweats I am now getting.  They occur almost nightly and completely drench the sheets and my clothes.  I know that I definitely get them from the neck down because my chest is soaked and I become chilled, but I have never gotten up out of bed and don't recall if my legs are sweating as well.  I am 39 years old and since night sweats wasn't listed as a side effect for Lexapro,  I brushed it off as the beginning stages of my change.  Since that is highly unlikely, I thought I would research more about the drug I am taking.  In addition to the night sweats, I do have increased sweating and hot flashes that pop up at any time as well as nausea and mild dizziness.  I was relieved to learn that many others taking Lexapro are experiencing some of the same things.
Hello all... I too am a 38 yr old, approx 4 months on
Lexapro, and thought I was having pre-menopausal
symptoms! I wake briefly at night to find my legs and
stomach are dripping wet. It is good to know the
cause is obviously the Lexapro. I have had no other
adverse side affects since the first few weeks of my
body adjusting, but I am not happy to think of
sweating every night as 'normal'. uuuggg....

I just took 8 pills and I quit taking them. Will I experience withdrawel? And what are limitations as far as quiting and other drug interactions

I'm alone this weekend and I'm afraid I'll kill over or something..

HELP!

i found a Lexapro pen in my house and i am using it.. im not depressed and i dont kno what to think WHAT SHOULD I DO!??!?!?!?! HELP ME OMG!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH PLEASE HELP IM SO DEPRESSED AHHHHHHHHHH

I have been taking Lexapro for a 2 weeks. About when do the night sweats start? Watch out for dehydration. I am a 20 year old college athlete. I drink alot of water for my sport. Maybe you guys should try hydrating during the day so that you dont become exessively dehydrated by morning. You may also want to reduce caffine intake.I have been taking lexapro for about 4 months. So far ive only had trouble sleeping occasionally.I went to my doctor back in november ,due to severe depression over the loss of my father.I am so glad i did!! Before i would cry constantly ,i would take everthing to heart ,i was generally miserable.Im glad they make drugs like this one.I would recomend this drug for depression it really helped me!

I've been on lexapro for 5-6 months.  It saved my life too.  I was severly  depressed due to PTSD.  I was extremely resistant to taking any kind of medication but I finally relented when I really had no choice.  I am so glad I did because I noticed a change almost immediately.  I know they say it takes up to several weeks to notice a difference for some people but not for me.  Thru this experience I really came to understand how a biological chemical imbalance can and should be treated with medication.   Depression in that sense is no different than any other medical condition and there should not be a stigma about treated it with medication if that is warranted.

After my depression lifted the ADD symptoms became more apparent.  They were there all along but it was hard to decipher what it was due to- depression, PTSD or something else so as the other things were being addressed we realized the ADD had to be dealt with too.  I started on adderall xr.  I've been taking that along with the lexapro and it has been a good combination.

I took Lexapro for approx 1-1/2 years.  I stopped taking it 6 weeks ago because of weight gain.  I have gained approx 15 lbs in the last 8 months.  Is this due to Lexapro?  Can't think of any other reason.  I've been eating the same and same activity level.  I've lost about 5 lbs since stopping it.  Did Lexapro screw up my metabolism?  Would like to know what others have experienced.I didn't gain weight but it did make me tired.  I corrected that by taking it at night.  In the beginning it took my appetite away.  Its funny how differently AD works on differnt people.  No wonder you have to fiddle around to find the right one for you.I started taking Lexapro for anxiety and I started feeling better within 2 weeks of using 10mg. My doctor just upped my dosage to 20mg because I still have some anxiety.

I have had no bad side effects. I take Xanax to help me go to sleep which helps a lot.

I have been on Lexapro for about a year and a half. It really seems to help me deal with stress as well as depression. However, it has made my skin (particularly on my face) get really bumpy--like enlarged pores. It gets even worse when I get sun on my face. I have read in a few places that Lexapro often heightens sun sensitivity, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this side effect and what might seem to help, etc.

Hi,   I took lexapro for for about 7 months. I gained at min. 15 pounds, I know it was the lexapro I eat right no sugar, carbs etc. I did feel wonderful happy for no reason at all on it, but between the weight and the skin rashes I had to stop it. Now it's been almost 2 weeks and the swelling in my stomach and itchy feeling is worse. I did sweat alot on it I could live with that but not the weight gain or the rash patches. Has anyone out there gone off of it with itchy, swollen systems? Did your body find it's way back to itself?????

your ssri plays off your weakness. Justt try and stop taking zlololt, paxil, lexeapro, see what happpens. with drwas the drug companie did wsnt these peoplem to see. After 23weeks 20mgpaxil,m you canm feeel it know oooimi ican feel the neuroms sparkWhst lihjt you see.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooo

hi

i was on lexapro after having some trouble sleeping, anxiety, night sweats, not sleeping. it ABSOLUTELY helped me. i took it for about 11/2 years and feel great. i have been off of it for two months and just started to mabye feel anxious again. if this persists, i will go back on it with no problems. good luck to all.

Exhaustion boys and girls, some night sweats, and trouble concentrating.  I have no energy (exhaustion really), a combination of insomnia then somnolence.  Incredible weight gain. 45 lbs.

I've been taking 10mg once a day,   No energy for the gym, or work.

I'd rather be anxious, I'm wondering if I'm less anxious because I'm just not doing anything.

Wow....I started Lexapro about five months ago, and in the past
few months I wake up soaking wet from the chest down. In fact,
there were a few mornings where I first thought I'd had an
"accident" and was actually relieved to discover it was just
sweat.

I have been accused many times of not having any sweat
glands (jokingly, of course) because I never sweat much, even
when working out at the gym. So, this is kind of weird.

I absolutely love Lexapro, and I think I've tried every other anti-
depressent/anxiety drug out there. It works wonders for me with
no side effects, or so I thought. I just got home from my doc
appt. tonight, where I mentioned the sweating thing (I'm 40 and
thought it was awfully soon to be having hot flashes) and he
said I was his second Lexapro patient today to bring up the
night sweats, and the third within the week.

He's looking into it, but hopefully it is just a harmless, annoying
side effect I can live with. Much better than the anxiety and
depressions.Anti depression drugs have to have suiside warning on them FDA required.

I've just read all of the messages regarding lexapro and quite frankly I'm scared to death.  I just got a prescription from my doc for lexapro and wanted to do some researach before getting it filled.  I have been having hot flashes for 10 years now.  I was thrown into chemically induced menopause with chemotherapy.  Now I am 53 and would like to not have hot flashes any more.  My doctor said that the med may help with the hot flashes.  It sounds to me like it will be a lot worse.

I am anxious, depressed and would like something to help but have never taken any kind of anti-depressants before.  I'm am so afraid of starting something and then having to stop because of side effects.

I have been on lexpro for about a little over a month and I love it, I have not had any night sweats. I take my at night which make it easier for me to remember. Has anyone on lexpro was really late on their your cause of it because I have take 2 prencey test and they cam out neg. and this is the only thing i can think of....plese give me your response!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been on Lexapro for about 8 months for postpartum depression and I have gained weight even though I have done every diet in the book. I am now going to try Wellbutrin SR I hope it helps if anyone has experience with this I would like to here it.I've been taking lexapro for about 2 years, but I've only recently began
experiencing night sweats. I don't feel hot at all, just damp and
uncomfortable. Lexapro has *really* helped me in the past, so I don't
want to stop taking it. However, I might consider lowering my dosage
from 20mg to 10. I hope that'll help!
I have been on Lexapro for about 8 months for postpartum depression and I have gained weight even though I have done every diet in the book. I am now going to try Wellbutrin SR I hope it helps if anyone has experience with this I would like to here it.
I am so glad to hear that other people taking Lexapro are having night sweats and hot flashes.  I have been taking 10mg for 2 months and I wake up in the middle of the night sweating and I feel like a wave of heat rushing over my body.  I also get lightheaded and feel faint.  This lasts for about 5 to 10 min. and then I get cold and shivers.  I am miserable!  I am only 31, so I know I am not pre menapausal yet.  Lexapro has really helped my anxiety, but I am considering stopping because I can't get a good nights sleep!  Any suggestions from anyone?  I've been on Lexapro for a little over a week now, and I can tell you that so far, i've noticed MAJOR aggitation.  I really don't know if I can tolerate it.  I'm going to give it a little more time and will post how it goes.

I found this site through a google search of lexapro and night sweats.  I am so thankful that I'm not crazy.  I too have the same sweating symptoms you do, sheets soaked, chills, etc.

My question is...when do you take your medicine?  I noticed a reply from a Lexapro user that takes theirs at night and has no sweats.  I take mine in the mornings.  If you all do too, then I will start taking it at night.  If this doesn't seem to solve the problem, I'm not sure what to do.

I previously took Zoloft for 2 years, but the incredible amount of weight gain was enough to go off the medicine.  Unfortunately I was not able to stay off any anti-depressant.  I researched and asked drs. and found that Lexapro causes the least amount of weight gain compared to the other anti-depressants.

Can anyone tell me if it is safe to take Lexapro, St.John's Wort, and a vit B supplement at the same time and if you had any results from them......It's usually not safe to take St. John's Wort with any other Anti-Depressant.

You can and should always call you doctor or pharmacist to double check but whenever I've read the drug interactions for my anti-depressants it always specifically mentions St John's Wort as something that should not be combined with the prescribtion drug.

St John's Wort also causes birth control to be ineffective.   Can anyone tell me if St. Johns' Wort is as effective in treating depression and anxiety as lexapro...?   I much prefer the natural route if it works...am also taking more vitamin B as I am told that also helps....? I called a pharmacist who said it is fine to take St. John's Wort with Lexapro...I've never heard of vitamins helping with anything other then making you healthier overall.

I take a multi vitamin plus extra D and B. None of it helps with ADHD but it makes up for whatever I'm lacking in my diet and makes me healthier in general.

Hope you get possitive results with the St. John's Wort or Lexapro or both if that's what it takes.

As for what is "natural" that's a matter of opinion really. Natural generally means you don't need a prescription. Usually but not always "natural" remedies are less expensive. They are also usually but not always not endorsed or monitored by the FDA.

Natural does not necessarily mean safer. In some cases they could actually be more dangerous since they are not regulated.

This doesn't mean you should not try something that might help, just make sure you know there are risks with anything we put into our bodies.  The risk doesn't deminish just because they slap the word Natural on the label.
