Good for you and for your son!  It takes a while to find the right meds and the right dose, and when you finally get there it is amazing!!

Hopefully all these positive days will help him to feel much happier about himself!

Well about a week ago I took Chase back to the doctor for his ADHD and told the doctor that the focalin was not working, in fact he was worse on it. Well we had already tried the Adderall Xr, and that was not working either. The doctor seems to think that his body was metabolising his meds to quickly so he put him on Ritalin, which he takes twice a day. And WOW what a difference. He is so happy and being such a good boy. He is listening, not screaming, playing nice, and being so helpful around the house. He feels so much better. I can not tell you how pleased I am on his progress within one week. I feel better too because I am not having to tell him 5 or more times to do something. His teacher even commented on it, said he is doing good. I am crossing my fingers that this med lasts for him.

Thanks for letting me share.

This is just one of so many examples of how truly effective medication can be when the right med and target dose is achieved. Wonderful news!!!!! Thanks for sharing

Good for you both.  I can imagine the happiness one may feel when everything seems to be all set.

Right now I am considering a change of meds for my ds, and the appointment is tomorrow. I wish I am as lucky as you!!!

Congratulations!!!

thats great i've got my fingers crossed for you and my prays are with yall

Thats great I happy for both of you!!!!!!!!!!!

Kelsea is doing pretty well right now on the Adderall I did cut the pill in half for 5mg because she was having really bad stomach pain and kind of lathargic (sp) on the 10mg Cant wait to go back to school and see if it really helps her at school or not. Praying that it does so we dont have another med change

My Chase is finishing up his Concerta, and he began guanfacine a week or so ago.  After the Concerta is done, he will begin on Ritalin LA...which will mean 2 pills a day on school days, but that might be a good thing...the Concerta was not lasting all day anymore anyhow, and on weekends I may not give the second pill, that may help him sleep, etc..have to see how his attitude and mood is...

Glad to hear that you and the doctor seem to have hit on the right med and doseage!
Thankyou all. I hope everyone finds what works best for their child. It has been so frustrating over the years. I am so happy for my son. He feels better about himself already. I am gonna keep my fingers crossed that this continues to help him. Chasesmom79, my Chase was on the once daily pills and they did not work for him, but on the ritalin which he takes twice a day so far he his doing great. I hope you have great results with it also.It is so great to hear good things about Ritalin. I have heard so many people tell me how bad Ritalin is. I am so relieved to hear that Ritalin isn't all bad. My son has been taking Clonidine. We have been having to increase his dose because he hasn't been sleeping as well. He is going to see a sleep specialist in Jan. He wakes up so many times during the night. Aidan has never slept more than 6 hrs straight and he has only done that twice. Usually he will sleep about four hours at a time. He has had two seizures caused by fever. He has had one EEG that came back fine, but he is going to the Children's Hospital to have a 72 hr sleep study to be sure that he hasn't been having seizures and make sure that he doesn't have any sleep disorders. I think he may have sleep apnea. He stops breathing for a few secs when he sleeps. His dad has sleep apnea. Hopefully, we will get to the bottom of it all. Anyway, after the sleep study, we may start him on Ritalin. I just want to be sure that he isn't having any seizures first, because Ritalin can make seizures more frequent. It is nice to hear that Ritalin isn't as bad as some say it is. I wish you all the best.Im really please for you, mikey was on ritalin for a while, i had my little boy back, everything was how i imagined being a mum would be & was over the moon about it we had loads of fun just as families should, unfortunatly it did'nt last & i took him off, found other stratigies, hard but for the better.

Every child is different & im hoping for you that this desision is the right one for you, your boy & your family. That's great news! I am happy for you. It gives me hope.
