Although the decision to medicate or not is a very personal one, I do agree with Ogram. Studies show the best results are obtained with a combination of medication and counseling.
Wishing you and your daughter the best!
Hi,
My daugher was just diagnosed in 4th grade, after yrs of battles w/the school. she is inattentive. she is an honor student, but very oppositional and unorganzied. I have not started behavioral therapy, but will soon.
He behavior is costing her friendships-she can behave like a 6 yr old and is very stubborn. doesnt think before she speaks. the hosp that evaulated her didnt really explain the meds and assumed i didnt want to try that first. and I don't. but I have no clue what the alt is. I see many people talking about epa , fishoil, etc.
what can i try on my 9 1/2 yr old. 76 lbs? I can only check this forum at work and therefore didnt have a lot of time to scroll thru threads. thank you!
I'm grateful for a reason for her behavior and problems focusing. I want to do everything I can to help her. I'm a single mom-and the sitter is about to give up w/frustration. Her father wont' help much.
mochamama3239080.6232986111I would conceder medications. IMO that would help with the behavior modifications. You cannot modify the behavior to her potential if she cannot control her impulsive behavior. I'm adhd, i remember what it was like at that age. It's hard, and keeping friends is hard, they see her as "different" or "strange". Medications will help her more than just behavior modifications. And it will also help you to help her. This is just my opinion. Hope it helps.
I am all for behavior modifications and meds in combination. also check out www.nativeremedies.com and look under adhd . My daughter is younger than yours but innattentive and oppositional too, it can drive a person INSANE. Good luck and hugs.
