Christmas Vaca and meds not working? | ADHD Information

Wow!!
I am completely the opposite. I am desperately waiting for school to start. I foresee a change of meds for my ds.

You are very lucky. Enjoy motherhood!!!

Has anyone noticed their child is more happy and less stressed during vacation? Dillon is not on meds and to tell you the truth, I have slacked on on all his vitamins and EFA's this past week due to going places and runing around and family have ben here......but he has been a joy to be around this week. I think school makes him crazy!!!!!Funny, I called the doctor too, about a week before Christmas. He said
not to make any judgements until the second week back to school,
because of the holidays and non-routine activities. It just seemed like the
meds stopped working at school, though at home on vacation I could tell
that they were helping him control himself. Today was the first day back
to school and it sounded bad, and tonight was a nightmare. It does sound
like we are not alone though... hopefully this too will pass. If not, I call
him next week!I am like dillon's mom.  Chase has been pretty good over the break..but we started guanfacine just before the break, so that may be it...I am eagerly awaiting school to see if this med helps him control his anger/frustration with other children (mostly at school and on the bus ride home).  He is having a med change soon more than likely due to insurance issues so let's hope everything keeps going well.   I personally would check into some counseling...play therapy.  My son is both on medicine and sees a play therapist.  I found that this is a great combination for him.  He is like a totally different boy and I really don't think it is one thing over another that is helping.  I think it is both of them working together.  His doctor really believes in the whole picture.  Nutrition, meds if needed, therapy.  Goodluck in finding what works for your daughter.

Hi all...new here. I have a daughter who is almost 6 dx as severe AHDH Hyperactive a few months ago. Began on Metadate CD 10 mg, morning and lunchtime dose, with short-acting Ritalin as needed in the evenings. Things were going very well, other than the rebound in the evenings, but we had been getting throught that. Other than weight loss, which has me a bit worried...

Christmas vacation comes, and it's like she is not even on meds anymore! Emotional, upset, angry, hyper...this began a few days after Christmas. Is it just being off schedule and the excitement? Is the honeymoon over? Does she need a med increase? She has been aleeping later, so her first dose of the day has been off schedule, but we have been trying to maintain consistency in giving her afternoon dose5 hours later as normal.

We had tried Focalin XR as well, but went back to the Metadate, since it seemed to work better. I am thinking of trying the Focalin again, as the Doc was really surprised that it didn't work as well as the Metadate CD...

Any suggestions? Do I call the Doc or wait till vacation is over and see how things go? She has another appt mid-January, but not sure we can make it till then if it stays like this!

Thanks! Any input appreciated!

Kim

Ksstew39081.4074768519It can be the structure thing on vacation less structure also holidays are exciting for children.  My daughter has been more hyper too and I blame it on too much excitement and when you are with family a lot that is a lot of stimulation.  You can discuss this with the doctor but I would wait and talk to the teacher he/she will be able to let you know how she is doing in school first.  Good luck Jill

Same experience.  My son's mood has been worse since he started vacations. Change of routine has crossed my mind too. I have been having issues with my ds that have shaken my ground. Those related to medication and mood. I am trying to get some time to think; I guess waiting until school starts again to see if there is improvement is a fair choice. Anyway there isn't much time left for that. My son goes back January 8.

I can tell you that I ran to the doc two days ago, kind of an emergency appointment, and all I got was getting more confused. In my case, I will wait some more days to see what action to take.

Welcome to this board. There are many kind and supportive people here!!

Good luck!!!
