Yes. Just started Daytrana (patch form of Ritalin) and seems worse. Unbelievably talkative. My son primarily has focus issues (not hyper) and is now bouncing off the walls. Starting to think that maybe he isn't ADD? Not sure what to think. How old is your child? My pediatrician does not feel that non-stimilalant meds (Straterra) are very effective.
Has anyone given their children Ritalin or Focalin and had the ADHD symptoms worsen? Super chatty. Dr. is now talking non-stimulant and we are scared to give him, as we are worried about his reaction.
It could be that you need a lower dose of the meds. If they are getting too much it might be affecting them that way. Also, a different formulation may make a big difference. Trial and error is the only way to find out.My son is six years old. However, if the stimulants don't work on your child. Where are you to go? I am going to try the non-stimulant and see how it works. He definately needs something.Unfortunately, he is on the lowest dose possible.I think he may actually need a higher dose... I'm really chatty when I'm on too low of a dose of Concerta, but at a higher dose things even out and I'm a lot calmer.Good to hear. Just as with all meds, or foods, or anything we ingest not all people react the same. I love penut butter. Its makes me do like that dog on the cartoon when that nice old lady gives him a treat. But if you give some to my brother, he might die... or just puke all over your kitchen and start doing a Linda Blair thing like on the exorsist.
I agree that it just may not be the right med or right dose. My son was HORRIBLE with Adderrall and eventually bad with Strattera but now is doing wonderfully on Focalin. I was really leery to try another stimulant after the Adderrall but I'm really glad we did now. What meds is he on? What dosage?
it may be just not the right med, or the dose.
Thanks for the update. We gave him a larger dose the first time and it was ten times worse. Lowered it the second time and he was better but symptoms were still worse. I will keep trying. When our son started Focalin, it seemed to make him more hyper at first - during the transition time while his body became used to the stimulant. The first couple weeks were pretty rough, but now he is doing terrific.
