My 14 year old son has been using the patch for the past four months. We are having success, except he hates the fuss of putting it on.
However, he says that about 30 mins after he takes it off...he gets real tired. Like a sudden drop. So, he does not want to take it off until after soccer practice, which is 7:00 pm, takes them off at 8:30....which means no sleep until midnight.....
Anyone else have this experience??
I haven't had this experience, but I do know that some parents give their kids a starter dose in the morning because Daytrana takes 2 hours to kick in. Have you asked your doctor to prescribe a booster dose in the afternoon? I'd talk to him/her and see what you can work out.
Well my insurance doesn't cover it, I'm not sure how much it's going to cost out of pocket. I guess alot of insurances aren't covering it because it's new. THIS STINKS!! I was hoping this would be an answer to the frustration. We will have to wait and see what happens.
He did give me a coupon for 40 free patches, I just hate to start her on that and then stop ya know?
Thank you for your support! I appreciate it!
I have heard that it is VERY expensive out of pocket..like over 0....so I haven't tried it. I don't think this patch is out in the uk :(So Nicnac, how'd it go?Has anyone had problems with tics? I am a little nervous about that. We are going to the doctor today. She is taking 18mg of Concerta now, when I can get her to take the pill. I am hoping that the Dr will give the OK for the patch, I can't take anymore mornings of forcing her to take a pill. It does work though!
Thanks for your input
I am going tomorrow to talk to the doctor about switching my daughters meds to this, she now takes Concerta and I have a heck of a time every morning to get her to take a pill.
It really takes 2 hours for it to work?? Anything else you can tell me from your experience?
Thanks
Daytrana can take up to 2 hours to work. it commonly takes this long to get into the blood stream. it is supposed to work for 3 hours after removal of the patch, however that also depends on the metabolism of the meds.
It is the best thing we have done so far, my dd has been on it for about a year now, and was involved in the med trials, I was sold by the second week!
The adhesive can be a PITA, sometimes they just WILL NOT stick, we put them in the freezer for a minute and that helps, and hold it for a minute or so on her bum.
