I have depression and ADHD.
I took Lexapro for 4 years, it helped my depression, but did nothing for ADHD. My doctor switched me from Lexapro 10 mg to Wellbutrin 150 mg.
The first day of Wellbutrin my ADHD improved - I was able to concentrate at work. It was amazing. It also pretty much eliminated my compulsive eating and problems with alcohol.
When you switch from Lexapro to Wellbutrin, be prepared for a rough first week especially if you are without a sexual partner. Lexapro stifles the libido and Wellbutrin charges it, so I had a super-charge of libido, which combined with the ADD lack of impulse control, resulted in some promiscuous behavior that I'm not particularly proud of and won't go into detail here.
I have been on lexapro (10 mg) for over a year and it took a good 6 weeks to feel better. I really liked it because it seemed to be very gentle but it did cause a small amount of weight gain for me. Good Luck!I take it also and think its a wonderful drug. The only bad part about taking it is that I have gained almost 30 lbs since I started it almost 2 years ago. My family does notice a difference if I dont take my Lexapro for a couple of days. I have tried other anti-dressants in the past but they all do the same thing: make me gain weight. So, Ive resolvec to be overweight & happy than skinny and miserable.
Good luck taking the Lexapro and give it a few weeks to start working.
There is no generic that I know of. I just started it a month ago to replace paxil. It seems to alleviate my anxiety some. My kids, however, keep finding new and interesting ways to challenge the anti-anxiety meds i take.Hi! my doctor just changed me from lexapr to welbutrin.
I have also been taking lexapro 10mg in the evenings for the last 6 months. So far it has been great, although I was a bit skeptic about starting it at first. It really takes the edge off things. I added wellbutrin xl 150mgs in the mornings as I did feel a bit lethargic. Concerning generics, I do not know of any, don't think they make one. If you are worried about cost, because I know the co-pay is pretty ridiculous, you can get 20mg tablets, and split them. Also tell your doctor that it's kind of expensive, and you'd appreciate if he could give you some samples. If lxpo is willing to sell or give away his meds, im sure you could also arrange something with him. Just glad to see there are quite a few out there on this board who takes lexapro.Johnnyboi39227.4608333333I have been on Lexapro for three years now. I think its great. I was on wellbutrin before but was taken off because I had a seizure on it. But as far as Lexapro goes...I didn't notice a dramatic difference right away. IN fact, don't expect to notice a dramatic difference at all. You will see it start to work slowly but surely over time. Really, I would give it at least 8 weeks before you even try to spot a difference. Maybe keep a journal and note how you are feeling every few days. But stick with it..... it really is a great med!
