YEAH, THATS EXACTLY MY PROBLEM. THIS PSYCOLOGIST ACUALLY PLAYS US AGAINST ONE ANOTHER.
IF MY DAUGHTER SAYS THAT I DO SOMETHING THAT GET ON HER NERVES, THE PSYCOLOGIST WILL TURN ME AND SAY, "DO YOU DO THAT TO HER!!??" IN AN ANGRY VOICE.
SHE EVEN TOLD ME NOT TO ASK MY DAUGHTER TO DO HER HOMEWORK! SHE SAID I WAS NAGGING HER. SHE ALSO SAID IT DIDNT MATTER IF MY DAUGHTER ENDED UP IN SUMMER SCHOOL. SHE SAYS ALOT OF WACKY THINGS.
I NEED TO TRUST MY GUT.

We see a play therapist/counselor twice a month. We see a physchiatrist for med check every two months. One of my best friends is a play therapist and she recommended play therapy as an option for our son. We of course don't see my friend because of the connections we have with her, but we do see a play therapist in our community. I think play therapist know how to keep things in perspective and can help greatly. 4myson39088.7241319444DD sees a psychologist occasionally, no psychiatrist. Her prescribing physician is a developmental pediatrician. She is going to start social group meetings with the psychologist next week. That's where kids with social issues can get together and role play social dilemmas. My son sees a wonderful psychologist once a week for social training skills. He also sees a therapist that helps in academic issues for school, she is kind of a tutor, but also helps him to get organized in everyday issues. My son was dx by a neuroped. How does one go about finding a mental health care provider that specializes in ADD/ADHD?In my case I started by talking to my insurance group (EAP-Employee Assistance Group) to find out the different individuals that were qualified to work with with ad/hd children. They gave me a list of sources. names and titles such as Psychiatrist, psychologist, play therapist/counselors etc... I then made calls to the different individuals. After I built my opinions on the sources I then spoke with my school counselor and a dear friend who is a play therapist. We all saw the need for the psychiatrist and the play therapist. The psychiatrist I chose believes in the whole picture (nutrition, therapy, medicine if needed). One of the first questions he asked us was if we would be willing to have our child receive counseling services above and beyond his services. We had already started play therapy before visiting him.
My thoughts are that you must find who you are most comfortable to work with. It is a team approach. I just felt more comfortable with the play therapist and pshychiatrist we chose. I didn't feel intimidated. I don't think my son does either. He is doing quite well after a year and 1/2 of services.
4myson39089.3319097222My son mikel(9) is seeing a psychiatrist. We had a psychologist, but sheTHIS IS A POLL TO SEE HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE YOUR CHILD SEEING:
BOTH A PSYCIATRIST & PSYCOLOGIST
OR JUST A PSYCIATRIST
CURRENTLY, MY DAUGHTER SEES BOTH,
BUT THE PSYCOLOGIST IS A QUACK, AND IS MAKING THINGS WORSE. I WISH TO JUST TAKE HER TO THE PSYCIATRIST AND HAVE THE EXTRA SUPPORT PROGRAM AT SCHOOL.

Ask your child's pediatrician for names of who he/she would recommend. Then you can see which ones your insurance company would cover. You can even call your closest Children's Hospital.
My dd sees a psychiatrist only. She has to see him once a month so he can monitor her weight & height.
