first day on Ritalin LA | ADHD Information
I gave Chase his first dose of Ritalin LA today. He did not get up til 10, a regular happening now that he is on the guanfacine.....he must be sleeping better, because no matter how late he stayed up in the past, he would never sleep past 8 or so. And I had to wake him at 10. I have also decided to give him a break from the Periactin for the weekend, because it seems to have lost its effectiveness and a break is all that is needed from what I have researched.
He took his pill and ate a good breakfast (pancakes) then went upstairs to play. I had errands to run and he and his 13 year old brother stayed home...the brother was still asleep. They did fine for the few hours I was gone...but they usually do...
I brought lunch home from McDonald's and he ate a McChicken sandwich and some fries.
My plan was to have him do his homework at about the time that the school day would be ending to try to determine if it is still in his system. I called him down from playing for homework and he came right away, but rustled through his book bag, got a drink, and generally fiddled around for at least 15 minutes, then gave me an in school suspension form to sign from a recess fight he was in yesterday.... (old medicine) This same boy has been doing things all week...stepping on the back of Chase's shoe in the hallway, teasing other boys (with those boys slapping him). And I guess they were playing tag, and the boy didn't follow the rules and Chase called him on it, then this kid pushed Chase 2X and Chase kneed him, then he punched Chase....whew...will it ever end? So his stalling may have been from his reluctance to give that to me...but who knows?
So he sat down and started on his math, and did some, but was hungry, so he took a break for supper (He ate more than his 13 year old brother) , and ended up only getting 2 problems (graphs) done....so I am not thinking that it is lasting, either that or he was just too hungry. So I told him that we would do the homework tomorrow.
I did ask him about how he felt on it at about 3 or so and he said fine, that he felt the same as on the concerta, so I guess no bad effects...
It is the start of a new grading period, so I will have to keep close track of his grades and assignments online to see if he can keep up...
