Help for my 4 year old son | ADHD Information

Firstly, you will need a good diagnosis that you are confident in (which you are initiating evaluation -and need to determine the primary issue and any co-morbid conditions), so that you can start to explore your options for dealing with it. It depends what type of schooling is available to your son, and what treatment is used after diagnosis. If there is smaller classroom setting available that you can get him into, this would be helpful. Meds (when you find the right med and dose) help with defiance, impulsivity, hyperactivity and attention, but everyone is different in the severity of symptoms and what they respond to. Regardless of the diagnosis and school setting, you might start with a positive reinforcment behavior plan like Ogram's marble system (top stickied thread on this board). Home and school behaviors can eventially be incorporated in the plan. You would start really simple for such a young child (1 behavior), and it might not work until he is older.

Hi,

Iam new to this board and am looking for some advice on my 4 y.o son. He has always been very hyper even as a baby. 2 months after starting preschool his teacher suggested getting him evaluated because of his inability to stay focused and impulsive behavior and he now gets a SEIT 5 hrs. a wk. We are in the process of getting him evaluated by a developmental ped. for ADHD. I suspect that is what he has. He screams out alot, is always "on the go"and is always arguing with us. Even with normal routine things it's a problem. Now he is getting ready for K and I don't know what kind of class he should be in. Does anyone have any tips for this exhausted mom???

P.S. I also have a 2 1/2 , and a 1 year old
