Adderall is also a CNS stimulant, as are all ADHD stimulants.
It could be that your dose was too high. Are you seeing a Psych or a regular Dr? Provigil is another meds that is supposed to be ramped. Not just started off at the highest dose.
I WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM YESTERDAY. MY DOCTOR SWITCHED ME FROM ADDERALL TO PROVIGIL.
THE ER DOCTOR SPOKE TO A TOXOCOLOGIST. MY HR WAS 129 IN 60 SECONDS, AND MY BP WAS 150/78.
Normally, my heart rate is in the 70's, and my bp is 115-120 systolic and 75-80 diastolic.
The toxocologist told the ER doctor that PROVIGIL is a CNS stimulan (central nervous system stimulant).
I took 200mg at 9am in yesterday morning, and I ended up in the ER at 5:00pm. Pressure on my chest, anxiety (which I NEVER GET).
*** Used to be on Adderall, 20 mg, in the AM (extended release. That was the miracle drug !
WATCH PROVIGIL !!!!
I was actually just at my doctors talking about bp- we're trying to determine whether my bp is high because of the adderall I'm on or because of anxiety. But he mentioned that if he does take me off the adderall he would probably try provigil. I'm also on wellbutrin also. What he did say was that provigil should not raise blood pressure or heart rate (my heart rate is also kind of high, but I don't know what it was before I started taking adderall, so I can't compare like with the blood pressure).
I've never had any problem taking the cold/sinus products with wellbutrin, but I do know that they can raise your bp cause a friend of mine can't take them for that reason.
I just googled provigil and saw that it can interfere with the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, so it looks like that's a no-go for me. 2 babies are enough.
I've never had trouble with Wellbutrin and decongestants. I think throwing Provigil into the mix is what messed me up...
Today, I skipped the sinus medicine and cut back on caffeine and my BP was 125/84, which is an improvement. I will continue to watch it. As I mentioned in my first post, Provigil worked well for me initially. I haven't felt too good this week and I'm wondering if it is the sinus trouble or if the Provigil has built up in my system enough to cause negative side effects. I hope my head will clear and I can go back to feeling as good as I did the first few days I took the Provigil...
I'm new here and to ADD. I've been taking Wellbutrin for several years and for the past 2, since my daughter was born, I have been having trouble focusing. My therapist referred me to an MD who prescribed Provigil. My insurance doesn't cover it, so I've been taking 1/2 dose or 100 mg early in the morning. It has been wonderful. I'm calm, yet focused. It is truly amazing. I've been taking it a little over a week and the past 2 days I've had a horrible headache. It feels like a sinus headache, so I've been taking decongestants and excedrin. I checked my BP and it was 145/95, which is the highest it had ever been. I can't decide if it is the Provigil or decongestants. I would think I would have a headache from the get go and not a week later...any thoughts? Its not a good thing to mix decongestiants with Wellbutrin or any other anti-depresent type drugs. Most decongestiants have an antihisthemine in them. I don't recall what the effects were from mixing, but I do recall my doctor telling me DO NOT mix them. I had to stop taking Wellbutrin after less than 5 weeks because it was causing me aggitation, I lost my concentration and I even scared the hell out of myself I would become so angry, also headaches. I learned later that people with previous head injury...(which I had) should not take Welbutrin, a fact my doctor over-looked. I also took Provigil and stoped after aprox. 2 months for much the same reason... headache and irritability, poor focus. Hope this info helps, good luck, take care. K_R44
