my son is almost 5 with adhd. a year ago i had him in a preschool for about 7 months then he started having behavior problems. the school was calling me a least once a week and i was having to leave work early to get him. fortunately i work for a company that knew the situation and was understanding. i was worried that i would lose my job. i know my child has rights with his disorder but as a parent of this child i was wondering if the parents have rights or laws protecting them when it comes to attendance in dealing and helping your child?Do you mean leaving work?  I only know of the family leave act and do not know how much this details.  You could look it up on the internet.  I would think if there is any it would be state not federal if there are any things for this.  I had to leave work constantly last year and the beginning of this year to get my son from school.  Is your son in kindergarten now?  Do you have an iep?  I know they can only make your child leave or get suspended so many times with this.  Again this may be state and here it is only 10 times a year.  I have him in a behavioral learning class now and have only had to pick him up once when he had a meltdown to close to getting on the bus and they wouldn't put him on it.  My work is amazingly understanding to my problems with him. 

I'm assuming that your son is not in public school yet. If this happens when he starts K, you'd need to get an IEP to stop this. Then you would request a Behavior Assessment. The school would address the problem. They have to provide FAPE, free access to public education. Preschools are private and they can do what they want.

The only thing I may do in your situation is apply for SSI maybe for your child and that what is going on with your work if you were to lose your job.  Do you have an understanding boss?  That makes a world of difference if they know up front and you do what you can to make up for lost time.  I am lucky my supervisor is flexible and understanding and will let me work from home if need be.  My boss only cares about is work getting done are needs of clients getting met and if the answer is yes he does not care.
