Report Cards Today | ADHD Information

Did anybody else get one today?  How'd it go?  And what do you make of report cards, anyway?

My take?  The grades were good, as usual.  And I can see the impact of ADHD.  Science and Social Studies grades are several points lower than they would be, if the DS could just sit still and pay attention when it's time to take tests.  Eh.  I guess that's the way it's gonna be.  He can live with that, so I can, too.

Overall, though, yet another day to feel privileged to have such a wonderful son.  He worked his little bottom off, to earn such good grades.  I'm so, so proud. He really worked to earn good grades. Without complaining ... much. (says drill sergeant Mom lol! )

That's my baby!

Ours came out last week, and both boys did well.  Jake always does, and Chase seems to have it together as long as his meds work....

Both of my girls got on the honor roll. Which I am so proud of them. Chase is still struggling, but with his new meds I am hoping for the best.

Doesn't it just kill you to see how hard they work, in order to achieve what other kids seem to take for granted?

OTOH, I really believe that all of this work will build their character. They won't take things for granted.  Maybe ADHD will bless their lives, in the long run.  I believe it will.

I know that Chase is very aware of how lucky he is to have found the right meds to help him.  It was just last year that we struggled mightily to achieve a C average, and once meds were in place he jumped to A's and B's with much less effort and yelling(on my part ),not his, LOL.  He always says when he gets a good grade on a test...."I know I can do it, but w/o my medicine, it is just so hard"  I stress to him that the pill is not making him smarter, just helping him to SHOW others how smart he has always been.

The other day, he missed going to the incentive treat/party by one discipline ticket and the principal read them a story about some mentally disabled children.  When the story was done, and the kids were asked to comment, Chase told the principal that he thought that mentally disabled kids were actually very smart, but that we had just not found the way to help them to apply that knowledge...do ya think he was drawing parallels between himself and them?  He said that he thought of all of the children that he knows that are challenged, I take care of autistic 5 year old twins, and at the daycare where I used to work and bring the boys when they were toddlers/preschoolers, there was a boy who was autistic, and that this is the theory he had come up with.

After he said this to the principal, he said that the principal cocked his head over to one side, thought for a moment, then marched over and gave Chase a "paw" which is a "positive" ticket, meant to encourage kids to do kind things, follow rules, be helpful, etc...

How can you not love such a sweet, empathetic boy???

That brought tears to my eyes, too.  Out of the mouths of babes.  Go, Chase!
